Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks a Senior Inpatient Medical Coder to deliver ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRG coding for inpatient hospital services. This remote role requires meticulous chart review, adherence to AHIMA/AAPC guidelines, and strong collaboration with providers to ensure accurate documentation.

The position includes virtual training, full benefits, and a compensation range based on experience. The ideal candidate has 3+ years inpatient coding, trauma center exposure, and proficiency with EMR systems.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED (or higher).
• AHIMA/AAPC professional coder certification maintained annually.
• 3+ years acute care inpatient coding experience.
• 2+ years trauma center or teaching hospital with complex cases.
• 2+ years ICD-10 CM/PCS and DRG coding.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient services and DRG impact.
• Abstract data elements during chart review when coding.
• Adhere to AHIMA/AAPC guidelines and ethical coding standards.
• Maintain required coding quality and productivity.
• Provide documentation feedback and query physicians as appropriate.
• Stay current on coding knowledge via QM leadership and training.
• Participate in coding department meetings and education.
