Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Senior Inpatient Medical Coder to deliver inpatient ICD-10-CM/PCS coding and DRG analysis from a remote home office within the United States. You will work with hospital facilities, adhere to official guidelines, and support productive and compliant coding across the organization.

The role requires AHIMA/AAPC credentials and 3+ years acute care inpatient coding, including trauma center exposure.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
• Professional coder certification with credentialing from AHIMA and/or AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P CPC, OR CPC-H) to be maintained annually
• 3+ years of Acute Care inpatient medical coding experience (hospital, facility, etc.)
• 2+ years of experience working in a Level 2 (or higher) trauma center and/or teaching hospital with mastery of complex procedures
• 2+ years of ICD-10 (CM & PCS) and DRG coding experience
• Ability to pass all pre-employment requirements including drug screening and background check

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate assignment of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient services and DRG impact
• Abstract additional data elements during chart review
• Adhere to AHIMA/AAPC coding ethics and guidelines
• Maintain required coding quality and productivity levels as per Optum360
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians
• Maintain up-to-date coding knowledge via QM Manager and Directors
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events
• Review and maintain records of coded, held, or missing charts
