Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer (Production Support) for a 100% U.S.-based remote role. The ideal candidate has 8+ years in production systems, 3+ years with SQL queries and monitoring, and strong cloud, OS, scripting, and security skills.

Qualifications

8+ years of experience in systems engineering or a related field, production environments.
3+ years of experience with SQL queries and monitoring.
Experience with AWS and/or Azure Cloud services and related tooling.
Strong proficiency with Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems.
Scripting experience in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.
Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, SaltStack).
Knowledge of IaC tools like CloudFormation and cloud-native technologies.
Experience with monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, DynaTrace, Science Logic).
Understanding of network protocols, VPNs, security, and compliance.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy).
Strong problem solving, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
W-2 based, U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities

Perform high-level, day-to-day operational support of complex application cloud systems.
Develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.
Follow standard practices in analyzing situations or data to obtain answers.
Detect, isolate, document, and rapidly report system outages; restore operation and develop workarounds.
Document problems in logging and discrepancy reporting tools.
Work directly with the customer in day-to-day activities.
Respond to user calls regarding hardware and software problems; escalate when required.
Communicate status of key problems to users and senior management.
Perform maintenance/installation of computing infrastructure.
Implement continuous improvement through IT systems or procedures.
Maintain inventory of system assets and ensure VA security/compliance.
Provide documentation, training, and additional duties as assigned.
