The BESS Engineer III role is remote and focuses on the design, development and optimization of battery energy storage systems, providing technical direction to project teams and ensuring performance, reliability and safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's preferred.
• 3+ years of electrical engineering experience with focus on BESS, renewables, or power systems.
• Expertise in design, integration, and optimization of battery energy storage systems; including lithium-ion batteries, inverters, BMS, and grid interconnection equipment.
• Knowledge of BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software.
• Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA and utility standards.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical SME for BESS engineering scopes, providing guidance and direction to project teams.
• Lead design and engineering of battery energy storage systems ensuring compliance with contracts, utilities, and AHJ requirements.
• Review feasibility studies, site assessments and system sizing analyses to recommend optimal BESS configurations and future augmentation.
• Mentor junior engineers and project teams on BESS design principles and practices.
• Coordinate with fire protection engineers and AHJ’s; oversee procurement and vendor reviews.
