Job summary

SOLV Energy, a leading provider of infrastructure services to the power industry, seeks a BESS Engineer III to design, implement, and optimize battery energy storage systems remotely across projects nationwide. You will guide project teams, review studies, and ensure safety, reliability, and performance in collaboration with internal teams and external partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's preferred.
• 3+ years of electrical engineering experience focused on BESS, renewables, or power systems.
• Expertise in design, integration, and optimization of battery energy storage systems; including Li-ion batteries, inverters, BMS, and grid interconnection equipment.
• Knowledge of BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software.
• Proficiency in power system analysis (PSS/E, PSCAD) and simulation tools.
• Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA, utility standards).
• Strong understanding of grid operations and regulatory requirements (FERC Order 841, IEEE 1547).
• Strong understanding of fire protection requirements (UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA855).
• Understanding of communication protocols used in SCADA and Energy Management Systems (IEC 61850).
• Project management including budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
• Strong understanding of EPC engineering workflows, including design deliverables, submittals, document control, and coordination with engineering partners
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and resources.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage multiple projects, adapt to dynamic project requirements, and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Bluebeam, with ability to maintain trackers, logs, schedules, and reports.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for BESS engineering scopes and guide project teams.
• Lead design and engineering of BESS, ensuring compliance with contracts, utilities, and AHJ requirements.
• Review feasibility studies, site assessments, and system sizing analyses to recommend optimal BESS configurations and future augmentation provisions.
• Serve as a senior technical contributor across electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, and HV engineering scopes on assigned projects.
• Manage Engineers of Record and third-party engineering partners to ensure scope clarity and timely delivery.
• Coordinate with fire protection engineers and AHJ’s.
• Develop and review technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for BESS components to support procurement activities.
• Provide technical oversight during procurement including vendor recommendations and drawing reviews.
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to design, procure, install, and commission BESS systems.
• Oversee system modeling, simulation, and analysis to optimize performance, efficiency, and reliability.
• Provide engineering support during construction, including field issue resolution, design clarifications, and minor redesigns.
• Provide engineering support for testing, validation, commissioning, energization, and initial synchronization.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers and project teams, providing guidance, training and lessons learned on BESS design principles and practices.
• Stay current with industry trends, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Support business development through proposals, presentations, and technical consultations.
• Represent SOLV Engineering in customer and client meetings.
• Participate in regular team meetings/ calls.
• Travel as required to support project execution.
• Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
