Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a BESS Engineer III to lead design, development, and optimization of battery energy storage systems across projects nationwide. You will provide technical leadership, oversee engineering teams, and ensure performance, reliability, and safety in all phases from concept through commissioning.

This fully remote role requires strong expertise in BESS, grid interconnection, and cross‑functional collaboration with engineers, contractors, and clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 3+ years electrical engineering experience with focus on BESS, renewables, or power systems.
• Experience designing, integrating, and optimizing battery energy storage systems including Li-ion batteries, inverters, BMS, and grid interconnection equipment.
• Knowledge of BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software.
• Proficiency in power system analysis and simulation tools (PSS/E, PSCAD).
• Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA, and utility standards.
• Familiarity with grid operations and regulatory requirements (FERC Order 841, IEEE 1547).
• Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to work with cross-functional teams.
• PE license preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple projects independently.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for BESS engineering scopes and guide project teams.
• Lead and manage design and engineering of BESS to meet contracts, utilities, and AHJ requirements.
• Review feasibility studies, site assessments, and system sizing analyses to recommend configurations.
• Mentor engineers and coordinate with engineering partners for scope clarity and timely delivery.
• Coordinate with fire protection engineers and AHJ for safety compliance.
• Develop and review technical specs, drawings, and procurement documentation.
• Provide oversight during procurement including vendor recommendations and drawing reviews.
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to design, procure, install, and commission BESS systems.
• Oversee system modeling, simulation, and analysis to optimize performance.
• Provide engineering support during construction and commissioning, including field issue resolution and redesigns.
