Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Human Centered Design & UX Analyst to support HCD and HFE activities across VA Connected Health initiatives. This role collects user requirements, develops validated workflows and wireframes, and evaluates usability through prototypes and studies.

Join a senior, growth-oriented team performing diverse research, design, and accessibility tasks. This position is fully remote within the United States and involves coordinating with VA experts and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Foundational understanding of human-centered design and user experience principles.
• Experience supporting qualitative research activities such as interviews, focus groups, observation, or usability testing.
• Ability to produce and maintain design research artifacts such as journey maps, personas, process maps, affinity maps, or wireframes.
• Familiarity with Mural or comparable collaborative whiteboard tools.
• Working familiarity with accessibility requirements (Section 508, WCAG 2.2).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting research findings.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and manage deliverables with firm due dates.
• Willingness to travel regularly within the continental United States for onsite research.
• Portfolio, case study, or work samples demonstrating research or design work.

Responsibilities

• Supports HCD and HFE studies using interviews, focus groups, observation, and usability testing.
• Plans, conducts, and analyzes user research to develop insights and recommendations.
• Coordinates recruitment for clinical subject matter experts and Veterans participation.
• Obtains participant consent and maintains interview notes when recording is declined.
• Develops and maintains journey maps, personas, affinity maps, wireframes, and workflows.
• Supports heuristic evaluation and literature reviews for product integration with EHR.
• Assists field testing, UAT, pilots, and creation of SOPs and knowledge articles.
• Contributes to human factors engineering activities and ensures designs meet HFE requirements.
• Monitors app feedback, logs backlog issues, and produces weekly/monthly summaries.
• Ensures conformance with VA Design System and VA Content Style Guide.
• Prepares meeting materials, research plans, and final report-outs.
• Facilitates workshops and stakeholder meetings using Mural and VA tools.
• Collaborates with product owners, designers, developers, and VA leads on roadmaps.
