Position Summary:
Experienced Supervisor responsible for overseeing all night-shift underground utility pipe-laying works, including SPPG (Power), Telecom, Water, and Sewer lines. Ensures safe, efficient, and quality execution of site activities in compliance with project specifications and regulatory requirements.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Site Supervision & Coordination
- Supervise and lead night-shift pipe-laying teams, machine operators, and subcontractors.
- Coordinate daily work activities such as excavation, trenching, pipe installation, backfilling, and reinstatement.
- Ensure all underground utilities (existing & new) are clearly identified before work begins.
2. Work Planning & Execution
- Review drawings, method statements, and work instructions before starting work.
- Plan manpower, materials, and machinery required for night operations.
- Monitor progress to ensure work meets schedule and productivity targets.
3. Safety & Compliance
- Enforce safety rules and ensure compliance with WSH, LTA, PUB, SPPG, and telecom authority requirements.
- Conduct toolbox meetings and ensure workers use proper PPE.
- Monitor confined space, deep excavation, and heavy-machinery risks during night shift.
4. Quality Control
- Ensure pipes are laid according to alignment, gradient, levels, and approved specifications.
- Check proper jointing, compaction, and testing works (pressure test, air test, CCTV, etc.).
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and prevent rework.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare nightly progress reports and submit shift handover notes to the day team.
- Record site issues, delays, equipment usage, and manpower deployment.
- Communicate with engineers, project managers, and clients on work status and issues.
6. Problem-Solving & Site Issues Handling
- Address site challenges such as utility clashes, ground conditions, and traffic constraints.
- Coordinate with traffic marshal team for night road works and diversion.
- Make quick decisions to avoid delays while maintaining safety and quality.
7. Client & Stakeholder Communication
- Liaise with consultants, client representatives, and utility authorities during inspections.
- Support coordination with SPPG, PUB, LTA, IMDA, Telecom operators, etc.
Core Skills
- Strong knowledge of underground utility installation (Power, Water, Sewer, Telecom).
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
- Excellent team leadership and communication skills.
- Experience with night-shift operations and traffic/road safety.
- Problem-solving and decision-making under pressure.
