RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director - Partnerships & Strategic Philanthropy has a role profile for a senior fundraising leader within The Salvation Army, responsible for cultivating and stewarding high-value relationships with major donors, corporate partners, philanthropic foundations, and government grant bodies across the Territory.

This position requires a strategic thinker with financial acumen, exceptional interpersonal skills and a deep understanding of philanthropic trends. The Director will develop tailored engagement plans, coordinate donor recognition efforts, and collaborate closely with leadership to align giving opportunities with organizational priorities.

Success in this role will directly impact TSA's ability to deliver life-changing programs to vulnerable communities across The Territory.

Strategic Relationship Management
  • Analysis of current donor pipeline and management strategies to develop the major gifts program.
  • Develop and implement a territory-wide strategy for engaging major donors, corporate partners, and institutional funders.
  • Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with high-net-worth individuals and organisations.
  • Identify and cultivate new funding opportunities through proactive outreach and networking.
  • Develop dedicated and committed Fundraising teams for Regional and Territorial Headquarters.
Partnerships & Major Gifts
  • The Director must play a pivotal role in advancing The Salvation Army's mission by cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with high-net-worth individuals, trusts & foundations, and corporate partners.
  • Ensure major gifts donors are appropriately stewarded and recognised.
  • Ensure the Partnership and Major Gifts programs achieve pre-agreed KRAs and KPIs.
Corporate & Foundation Partnerships
  • Secure strategic partnerships with corporations and philanthropic foundations aligned with the organisation's vision, values and mission.
  • Prepare compelling proposals, presentations, and impact reports that are innovatively and strategically aligned to each partner's interests.
  • Negotiate partnership agreements and ensure compliance with funding requirements.
  • Ensure the Corporate and Foundation Partnership programs achieve pre-agreed KRAs and KPIs.
Government Grants & Funding
  • Identify and pursue government grant opportunities at local and national levels.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of grant applications and reports.
  • Maintain strong relationships with government agencies and funding bodies.
  • Ensure that Government Grants & Funding programs achieve pre-agreed KRAs and KPIs.
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Collaborate with internal teams across The Territory to align fundraising efforts with program priorities.
  • Create a highly effective fundraising team with a shared vision, clear goals and the highest level of trust in your leadership, exhibiting absolute commitment to the agreed programs and goals.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to regional fundraising staff and volunteers.
  • Represent the organisation at key events, donor meetings, and public engagements.
Other responsibilities

Any unauthorized exchange or disclosure or confidential information beyond its original intended purpose constitutes a serious breach and stern disciplinary action which may include termination, if necessary.
  • Co-supporting in fostering positive working climate through open communication, timely feedback and proper due process, when applicable.
  • Represent TSA at business and networking meetings and keeping abreast of trends and development when assigned.
  • Undertaking any assigned projects/ special duties as directed by Chief Secretary and Leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
  • University Degree - Preferred in Business, Marketing or relevant discipline
  • Strategic planning and financial acumen
  • Proven track record in major gift fundraising, corporate partnerships and grant writing
  • Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills
  • Strong strategic thinking and project management capabilities.
  • Experience in preparing high-quality proposals and donor communications
  • Knowledge of fundraising regulations, ethics, and best practices
  • Passion for mission-driven work and alignment with The Salvation Army values
Preferred
  • A tertiary fundraising qualification or certification (e.g. CIPP, CFRE or equivalent)
  • Experience working in a faith-based or mission-driven organisation
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and donor databases
  • Understanding of tax and legal considerations related to philanthropy and trusts & foundations
