Key Responsibilities
- Tournament & Course Conditioning: Oversee all turf maintenance operations across greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, and roughs, maintaining elite, consistent conditions on warm-season grasses. Develop and execute detailed tournament preparation plans to meet PGA/DP World Tour standards daily.
- Ensure surface performance meets expectations for firmness, speed, smoothness, and visual presentation year-round.
- Multi-Course Operational Leadership: Manage agronomic programs across multiple courses and practice facilities.
- Adapt maintenance strategies to suit specific grass species, microclimates, and usage patterns.
- Conduct regular quality assessments and implement proactive improvements.
- Team Management & Leadership: Lead and develop a large, skilled team including Assistant Superintendents, Foremen, Technicians, and Irrigation Specialists.
- Promote a culture of detail, discipline, and pride in delivering best-in-class playing conditions.
- Build team capacity and succession through mentorship and structured development.
- Agronomic Expertise & Innovation: Use soil and turf data, moisture sensing, and weather modeling to drive turf health decisions.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies, machinery, and inputs suited for warm-season turfgrass.
- Oversee renovation, drainage, and construction projects aligned with long-term agronomic goals.
- Environmental Stewardship & Compliance: Lead sustainable practices in water use, nutrient management, and chemical application.
- Ensure full compliance with local and international environmental and safety regulations.
- Support club-level sustainability goals and maintain certifications where applicable.
- Budgeting & Procurement: Collaborate on operational and capital budgeting.
- Track labor, materials, and machinery usage to stay within budget.
- Manage vendor relationships and procurement for turf products, equipment, and inputs.
- Tournament & Event Integration: Serve as the point of contact for all agronomy-related aspects of major tournaments and events.
- Work with Tournament Directors and Golf Ops to ensure course setup exceeds expectations.
- Manage recovery plans post-event to restore peak conditioning quickly.
Job Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in golf course or sports turf management, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven expertise managing warm-season turfgrasses (Bermudagrass, TifEagle of equal, Zoysiagrass, or Seashore and Platinum Paspalum) in hot climates.
- Demonstrated success preparing and conditioning courses for PGA Tour, DP World Tour, or equivalent tournaments.
- Deep technical knowledge in irrigation systems, fertility programs, cultural practices, and disease/pest management.
- Multi-course or resort-style facility experience strongly preferred.
- Strong business acumen, experienced in preparing approval papers, budget documentation, and operational reports; financially literate and detail-oriented.
- Advanced chemical knowledge, fluent in both trade and scientific chemical names, formulations, and mixtures; able to oversee compliant and effective application programs.
