We are looking for engineers with hands-on controls design experience across the project lifecycle from concept design through construction to commissioning and handover. You will be relied on as a subject matter expert in the controls engineering field. At Amazon we highly support continued learning opportunities and focus on continued employee development.

You must be able to lead a small international team of controls engineers and depend on others to accomplish the required work. As a controls engineer at Amazon you will be working with other internal groups as well as external groups including utilities manufacturers vendors consultants and contractors. Amazon has a global presence and a 25% travel will be expected as part of this role. Projects will be throughout the region and a degree of international travel and support will be necessary. As an engineer within our team you will spend a regular part of your time analyzing and improving every aspect of our value stream.

Key job responsibilities

The Data Center Controls Engineer will be responsible for the following :

• Have deep knowledge of building operations mechanical plant strategies EPMS / BMS programming concepts control diagrams industrial HVAC electrical line-ups one line diagrams and complex environmental and electrical concepts.
• Data center redundancy mechanical failure strategies energy and water conservation best-case practices and data reporting analytics.
• Knowledge of how to successfully operate in high security critical environments while maximizing productivity.
• Innovation of new solutions to support initiative team and company goals.
• Lead and facilitate collaboration with multiple teams including construction programmers MEP / ACS engineers and team managers as necessary to accomplish initiative goals.
• Ability to lead external consultant to deliver project specifications to AWS standards and challenge them technically.
• Create maintain and disseminate specification documents that pertain to global projects.
• Create maintain and disseminate project specific scope of work (SOW) documents including global design standards.
• Vendor selection bid review approval of equipment submittals RFI support and coordination.
• Central point of contact for multiple internal and external groups regarding EPMS / BMS controls standards. Manage and prioritize requests for information on new construction builds existing site facilities support and legacy site enhancement projects.
• Anticipate roadblocks and risks while providing escalation management.
• Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate controls equipment.
• Preparation of controls points lists cable tray routing plans and schedules.
• Expect to travel globally (although predominantly within APAC) when needed to manage and / or support project initiatives.

Degree in an Electrical or Mechanical Engineering field and 3 years directly related to data center or mission critical facility design

8 years as design lead on projects with multiple teams or vendors to meet project requirements

Comprehensive understanding of the various code requirements across the APAC region. Fundamental understanding of critical electrical equipment HVAC equipment power system monitoring and transfer schemes.

Experience with design configuration or servicing one or more of the following products; Siemens : Apogee Honeywell : Building Controls Trend : Building Controls Schneider Electric : PowerLogic / Struxureware Rockwell Automation : FactoryTalk Tridium : Niagra Eaton : Foreseer ABB : Decathalon Johnson Controls : Metasys

Must be business proficient in English and able to work in a diverse team

Project management organization and problem solving skills with a drive for results and the ability to handle multiple tasks.

Experience with the use and programming of electrical power monitoring systems (Schneider Eaton preferred).

Experience with the use and programming of software in building management systems (Schneider Siemens Tridium Trend preferred).

Ability to research new designs technologies and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities and to carry new design concepts through exploration development and into deployment / construction

The ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and present the justification to management in a high level review
