Overview
Job Description The Microscope Service Engineer / Assistant Engineer is responsible for delivering technical support, maintenance, repair, installation, and calibration of optical, metallurgical, digital, and imaging microscope systems at customer sites and in-house. This role ensures instruments are fully functional, accurately calibrated, and meeting customer applications, such as semiconductor, manufacturing, life sciences, and material analysis.
Responsibilities
- Installation & Commissioning
- Install and set up optical, metallurgical, stereo, and digital microscope systems.
- Configure imaging software, cameras, and accessories.
- Conduct on-site system testing and ensure customer acceptance.
- Maintenance & Repair
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on microscopes and imaging systems.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, optical, electrical, and software issues.
- Replace components (LED/halogen light source, objectives, stages, actuators, filters).
- Perform alignment, calibration, and performance validation.
- Technical Support
- Provide on-site and remote technical support to customers.
- Diagnose equipment faults and propose corrective actions.
- Support warranty and post-warranty service cases.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare service reports, maintenance checklists, and calibration certificates.
- Maintain records of spare parts used, service history, and customer feedback.
- Ensure compliance with company service procedures and safety standards.
- Customer Training
- Conduct basic user training during installation.
- Demonstrate proper operation, care, and maintenance of microscope systems.
- Collaboration
- Work closely with sales team on technical evaluations, demonstrations, and product testing.
- Provide feedback to engineering team about recurring issues.
Qualifications
Education
- Diploma or NITEC in:
- Electrical Engineering / Electronic Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mechatronics
- Biomedical Engineering
- Precision Engineering
- Instrumentation or related fields
(For Assistant Engineer, Diploma/NITEC Higher/ITE is acceptable.)
Technical Skills
- Basic understanding of optical principles (magnification, illumination, NA, DOF).
- Familiarity with mechanical systems (stages, focus drives, actuators).
- Knowledge of electrical and electronic troubleshooting.
- Experience with imaging software (Evident/Olympus etc.) is a bonus.
- Ability to use common service tools: multimeter, calipers, etc.
Experience
- Preferably 1–3 years working experience in:
- Microscope servicing
- Lab instruments servicing
- Hospital / Semiconductor equipment maintenance
- Fresh graduates with good technical aptitude may apply for Assistant Engineer.
Soft Skills
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willing to travel to customer sites (hospital, clinic. factory, lab, cleanroom).
- Responsible, detailed, and safety-conscious.
Other Requirements
- Ability to lift moderately heavy equipment (10–20kg) occasionally.
