Job Description
A. Clinical (80%)
- To carry out daily duties as overall Nurse-in-charge.
- To supervise all nursing staff during her shift.
- To supervise Senior Nursing Aides / Nursing Aides in their performance of more senior procedures, e.g. Naso-Gastric tube feeding of residents and complex wound dressings, etc.
- To supervise and ensure the general tidiness of the wards.
- To ensure that nurses attend to residents’ call bells and needs promptly.
- To conduct rounds and check on residents’ condition regularly (during their shifts).
- To ensure that the residents are kept comfortable, dry and clean at all times.
- To perform all senior nursing treatment including the administration of medications.
- To provide general supervision / education of residents / relatives and to handle emergencies.
- To supervise staff in updating all nursing charts e.g., vital signs chart, Intake/Output chart, Dressing chart, etc., daily.
- To be responsible for assessing all newly admitted residents and to do their nursing care plans within 48 hours; evaluate and review the interventions as necessary.
- To be responsible for documenting all residents’ daily care reports.
- To ensure cleanliness of the medication cart, cupboards, drug fridge, medication store room and treatment room.
- To update all residents’ Resident Assessment Form (RAF) every 3 months, and all other essential data into the IT system as and whenever necessary and report to Nurse Manager / Director of Nursing – for the billing department to inform NOK of the change in status.
- To update all residents’ ACP and Braden scales every 3 months, and Morse, Fall Scale & Abbreviated Mental Test revisions every 6 months.
- To continuously attend both in-house training courses and/or external training courses, e.g., from AIC, so as to keep up to date and relevant to standard nursing knowledge and skills.
- To report any significant events to the Nurse Manager and/or Director of Nursing.
- To do any other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager / Director of Nursing.
- Urinary catheterization to be done by Staff Nurses.
B) Administration (20%)
- To collaborate with the doctor, physiotherapist, dietitian and pharmacist, every 6 monthly for the Multi-Disciplinary Rounds and every 2 monthly for the dietitian’s and pharmacist’s rounds.
- To participate in Quality Assurance/Fire Safety/Emergency Response Committee and Clinical Staff meetings every month and staff retreats every 6 months.
- To do daily assignments for ward nurses.
- To assign and supervise responsible staff to check that all ward equipment is in functioning order and/or inspected by vendors, e.g., oxygen concentrator, suction machine, nebulizer, autoclave machine, bedpans / urinal sanitizer and emergency equipment.
- To mentor new staff nurses and newly promoted enrolled nurses (for senior staff nurses).
- To do their respective team of nurses’ annual performance appraisal / KPI reports (for assigned senior staff nurses).
Qualifications / Work Experience
- State Registered Nurse with Singapore Nursing Board.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support Trained.
- Relevant nursing qualification, e.g. Diploma in Nursing or Bachelor of Science (Nursing).
- Advanced Diploma, preferably in Gerontological or Palliative Nursing (for Senior Staff Nurses).
- At least 1 year of working experience for Staff Nurses or promoted from existing Enrolled Nurses position in the nursing home.
- At least 5 years of working experience in a nursing home or post-graduation.
- Able to communicate with all levels of staff.
