Hyperdisk and Persistent Disk are Google’s virtual block storage offerings - a foundational building block for cloud workloads, from high-end databases to large Machine Learning (ML) workloads. The product space is evolving with changing workload requirements that drive fundamentally new technical and product solutions to meet cost and performance requirements. It is a testing space, which is what makes it interesting.

• Design and implement the next generation of systems to run, manage, and plan large-scale workloads on Google's block storage platform.
• Design, develop, and implement software systems in C++ to manage and automate large-scale workloads on Persistent Disk.
• Provide technical leadership for projects and mentor junior engineers, and actively contribute to code and design reviews to maintain engineering standards.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Compute Engine (GCE), networking, and ML teams, to deliver cohesive end-to-end solutions.
• Engage with key stakeholders, using Mandarin language skills for technical collaboration, to understand and implement regional workload requirements.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
• 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
• Experience in C++ development for systems-level programming.
• Experience in storage systems (e.g., block storage, distributed file systems, storage virtualization) and their underlying principles.
• Ability to communicate in English and Mandarin fluently for technical collaboration with key partners.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with the infrastructure and management of large-scale data workloads, such as Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), Spark, or other big data frameworks.
• Experience with public cloud platforms (Google Cloud) and infrastructure for Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) workloads.
