Overview

The Senior/Registered Nurse (Outpatient Oncology) plays a vital role in providing advanced nursing care in an outpatient setting to patients undergoing cancer treatment. This role requires advanced clinical judgment, expertise in chemotherapy administration, patient education, and close coordination with the multidisciplinary oncology team. The nurse ensures safe delivery of systemic cancer therapies, vigilant monitoring, and compassionate support for patients and caregivers throughout the treatment journey.

The Senior/Registered Nurse additionally supports staff development, maintains high practice standards, coordinates patient care, and contributes to quality improvement within the unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • 1) Patient Assessment and Care
    • Conduct thorough assessments and care of oncology patients.
    • Develop and implement individualised care plans based on patient assessments.
    • Administer treatments and interventions as required by the specialised unit's focus.
    • Prepare and administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and supportivemedications in accordance with safety standards and institutional protocols.
    • Verify chemotherapy orders, dosages, patient parameters, and lab results to ensure treatment appropriateness.
    • Ensure strict adherence to regulatory and safety standards.
  • 2) Patient Education
    • Educate patients and their families about their medical conditions, treatment plans, and self-care.
    • Provide detailed guidance on medication management, lifestyle modifications, and preventive measures.
  • 3) Leadership and Mentorship
    • Mentor junior nursing staff.
    • Assist in the orientation and ongoing training of new team members.
  • 4) Collaboration and Communication
    • Collaborate closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
    • Relay critical patient updates promptly and contribute to case discussions and care planning.
    • Maintain open and effective communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • 5) Documentation
    • Document all assessments, treatments, toxicities, interventions, and patient responses in the EHR accurately and promptly.
  • 6) Quality Improvement
    • Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
    • Identify opportunities to enhance workflow efficiency and care standards and contributeto the development of best practices.
  • 7) Emergency Response
    • Be prepared to respond to oncology-related medical emergencies.
    • Follow established protocols and procedures during crisis situations.
  • 8) Professional Development
    • Maintain current knowledge of the latest developments in nursing and oncology nursing, chemotherapy protocols, and emerging therapies.
    • Engage in continuous professional development and pursue relevant certifications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience; oncology or chemotherapy administration experience strongly preferred.
  • Current registration with Singapore Nursing Board (SNB).
