Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Publishing Executive to lead and grow our academic publishing portfolio. You will be responsible for shaping editorial direction, driving commercial success, and ensuring the integrity and impact of our academic content. This is a role requiring an understanding of academic research, scholarly publishing trends, and digital innovation. This role may require occasional travels to other countries; you need to be comfortable traveling alone occasionally to other countries for business trips.
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute publishing strategies that align with the company’s academic and commercial objectives.
- Identify emerging trends in scholarly communication and incorporate them into publishing plans.
- Oversee the development and growth of existing and new journals, books, and digital products.
Editorial Oversight
- Lead commissioning strategies for books and journal content across subject areas.
- Ensure high editorial standards, peer review integrity, and compliance with ethical publishing practices.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with editorial boards, authors, and academic institutions.
Business & Market Development
- Identify and pursue new subject areas, market segments, and partnership opportunities.
Team Leadership
- Manage and mentor editorial and acquisition staff to foster growth, innovation, and accountability.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Represent the company at academic conferences, author events, and publishing forums.
- Build strategic alliances with universities, societies, and international research communities.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 - 3 years of experience in publishing industry (bonus if you have academic or scholarly publishing experience)
- Proven track record in publishing or managing academic journals, books, or digital products.
- Strong communication and analytical thinking skills.
- Understanding of open access models, indexing services, impact metrics, and research trends.
- Excellent project management and commercial acumen.
- Experience with editorial workflows, peer review, and digital content systems.
- At least a Masters in a relevant field (preferred, not required).
- Candidates that do not hold a Masters but have the relevant professional experience required are welcome to apply.
