Job summary

A leading research centre in marine technology in Singapore is looking for a qualified researcher with a PhD in Civil Engineering or related fields. The candidate will perform complex analysis, assist in practical tests, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders for funding. They should have at least 2 years of relevant experience, strong skills in offshore engineering and hydrodynamics, and be familiar with CAD and programming tools. Teamwork and communication skills are essential for this role.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Applied Mathematics or related fields.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in relevant research or industry.
  • Experience with offshore engineering and hydrodynamics is preferred.

Job Description
  • Perform research in the following areas:
    • Global performance analysis, including coupled wind-wave simulations.
    • Multi-body interactions involving multiple floaters.
  • Assist in conducting physical model tests, field experiments and numerical simulations to support the development of integrated physical-numerical modelling and simulations.
  • Collaborate with industry partners, affiliated research institutes and other relevant stakeholders to contribute to grant proposals for research funding consistent with the strategic goals of TCOMS.
  • Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Job Requirements
  • Qualification & Field of Study: PhD in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Applied Mathematics or other related disciplines.
  • At least 2 years of experience.
  • Work Experience: Preferably having relevant research/industry experience with competent knowledge in some of the following areas:
    • Offshore engineering, marine engineering, hydrodynamics, naval architecture and ocean engineering.
  • Prior knowledge in the following numerical methods/software/programming languages will be an advantage:
    • CAD software such as SolidWorks, Rhino, AutoCAD
    • Engineering tools such as WAMIT, SESAM and OrcaFlex
    • Programming codes such as FORTRAN, Python, MATLAB, C++ or equivalent.
  • Other Requirements: Good interpersonal and communications skills. Ability to adapt and work effectively as members of a team. Resourceful and self-driven with a high degree of professional integrity.
