About the role

R&D Scientist Product Development is responsible for all phases of innovation product development from ideation to post launch and handover for product maintenance. The innovation product development encompasses new product features or benefits, productivity, compliance and/or strategy. The role interfaces with different cross‑functions in the region, in the markets, and with global functions as necessary, to ensure alignment of innovation with corporate product strategies, and in the successful scale‑up and launch of new product formulations.

Your responsibilities

• Responsible for preparing, developing and executing experiments and trials and product evaluations for product development and process development activities, for raw materials and formulations in Asia Pacific used at third‑party subcontractor and MJN plants.
• Develop and maintain databases required in innovation, product development and process development to map tracking of innovation internally and externally.
• Prepare appropriate technical documentation for tests and studies and other key requirements in the product development phases to product handover for maintenance.
• Responsible for budget preparation and expense monitoring for specific requirements and projects handled.
• Apply knowledge of ingredient functionality, interactions and other fundamental food science principles for optimum product design.
• Apply knowledge of food and nutrition and understand implications to product design.
• Utilize all pertinent regulatory guidelines in all aspects of product formulation to ensure legal compliance and product safety.
• Apply knowledge of manufacturing scale‑up and the relationship of various operations to overall product functionality.
• Apply fundamentals of analysis, design and resolution of product development problems.
• Execute elements of intellectual property of formulations.
• Effectively communicate technical topics to various audiences to influence decisions.
• Effectively utilize networking relationships with internal R&D staff and suppliers to acquire other technical knowledge and expertise.
• Participate effectively in a technical role in cross‑functional teams in various improvement and enabler programs.
• Apply adherence to GMP, FDA and local regulatory requirements.
• Apply adherence of employee safety in the workplace including compliance with legal, corporate safety and environmental guidelines.

The experience we're looking for

Qualifications

• B.S. in Food Technology/Food Science, Food Nutrition, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or any other science related course. Master’s Degree is an advantage.

Experience

• 2 to 4 years of experience in food/pharmaceutical/beverage manufacturing industry in R&D, QA or production functions with at least 2 years of those spent working in aspects of R&D product development.
• Basic knowledge in food and nutrition, food ingredient functionality, nutrient fortification and its application.
• Applied working knowledge in Dairy Science, Food Science, Formulation Development, interpretation of food regulations.
• Knowledge of Asia regulatory environment is an advantage.
• Experience working in the processing area, process development, or being involved in projects driven by process or technology is an advantage.
• Experience handling multiple projects at one time.
• Experience in multinational company.
• Stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, focusing on influencing outcomes through data and structured presentation of analyses.
• Interaction with external customers to identify and understand internal and external customer needs is an advantage.
• Experience in delivery of projects and intellectual property with third‑party manufacturers is an advantage.
