Project Manager Responsibilities – Underground Pipelaying (Sewer, Water, Electrical& Telecom)
1. Project Planning & Coordination
- Develop detailed project execution plans and timelines for sewer, water, and electrical utility installation.
- Coordinate with engineers, designers, and survey teams to finalize routing and layout.
- Plan for trenching, shoring, dewatering, and backfilling operations.
2. Permit & Regulatory Compliance
- Obtain necessary permits and approvals from local municipalities and utility agencies.
- Ensure all work complies with environmental, health, and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, local codes).
- Coordinate utility locates (e.g., 811 services) to avoid damage to existing infrastructure.
3. Site Supervision & Crew Management
- Oversee daily site operations and manage foremen, subcontractors, and equipment operators.
- Monitor trench safety, pipe handling, and bedding/backfill procedures.
- Enforce safety protocols and conduct toolbox talks and site inspections.
4. Budget & Cost Control
- Track project costs, labor hours, material usage, and equipment utilization.
- Manage vendor contracts and approve purchase orders and invoices.
- Identify potential cost overruns early and implement corrective measures.
5. Quality Control
- Ensure proper installation of sewer, water, and conduit systems per project specs and standards.
- Coordinate pressure testing, mandrel testing, CCTV inspection (for sewer), and commissioning activities.
- Maintain detailed records of installations, inspections, and approvals.
6. Stakeholder & Client Communication
- Act as the point of contact for clients, municipal inspectors, utility companies, and consultants.
- Conduct regular site meetings to provide updates, resolve issues, and ensure alignment.
- Manage change orders and scope adjustments in a timely manner.
7. Scheduling & Logistics
- Sequence construction activities to avoid conflicts between sewer, water, and electrical installations.
- Schedule delivery of materials such as pipes, fittings, conduit, and backfill.
- Manage utility shutdowns, tie-ins, and live connections with minimal disruption.
8. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain project documentation including daily reports, safety records, test results, and redlines.
- Prepare progress reports and submit required documentation to authorities and clients.
- Ensure proper as-built records and handover packages are completed.
