Job description
Purpose

To plan, schedule, organize, manage and control the production and engineering activities of bulk drug substances in Production Building to achieve targeted production levels cost effectively, efficiently and reliably, within the framework of current Good Manufacturing practices (cGMP), quality, safety, occupational hygiene, responsible environmental protection and in cognizance of the dynamic business environment.

Responsibilities
  • Focus on the routine manufacture activities to ensure that production of bulk drug substances meets stipulated quality, time and cost specifications and in full compliance with the relevant internal and external requirements, regulations and standards.
  • Manage a group of professionals e.g. Manufacturing Engineer/Chemist etc. to trouble shoot all process, manufacturing and customer related issue and implement remedial actions to minimize impact to production.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance by section’s staff with the various operating procedures, documentation, GMP, safety, occupational hygiene, environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, review and approve all relevant manufacturing documents in accordance to site procedures.
  • Support the generation of the capital expenditure (CAPEX) proposal list for budgeting. Work closely with the Technical Operations Team to establish windows for New Production Introduction (NPI) and capital projects implementation.
  • Generate operating budget for own section and manage expenditure to ensure achievement of operational targets and drive cost reduction initiatives.
  • Ensure information related to routine production activities are actively tracked & captured for consolidation at the departmental level & submitted to management for decision. Perform various tier reviews and ensure visuals for various metrics are updated.
  • Manage, develop, and motivate staff to help realize their maximum potential so as to contribute towards achieving the objectives of the department.
  • Fulfill the role of Value Stream Embedded GSK Production System (GPS) Practitioner to drive reduction in accidents, defects and waste including continuous improvement within the Value Stream.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • A degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or any relevant field.
  • At least 8+ years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical, chemical or petrol chemical industry.
  • At least 2 years management experience of managing teams of shift workers (4 shifts at 5-8 people per shift)
  • Experience commissioning and operational experience in pharmaceuticals plants.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of pharma product, production processes and plant.
  • Good engineering maintenance knowledge
  • Good statistical knowledge.
  • Good troubleshooting skills.
  • Good knowledge of GMP, safety, hygiene and environment regulations.
  • Good knowledge of NDA registration procedures.
  • Good presentation, communication and project management (Lean Six Sigma) skills
  • Proven experience in successfully interacting with other department stakeholders
  • Good understanding of the business processes and MERPS
