About Innovation Economy division

The Innovation Economy division in EDB charts the agency’s vision towards an innovation-led economy and develops the R&D and innovation strategies for foreign companies to create new products, services and businesses in Singapore. To achieve this, we develop and execute national and ecosystem-level strategies to bolster Singapore’s position as a globally leading innovation destination for foreign companies. We are also responsible for uncovering and incubating new industry sectors with mid to long term economic opportunities for Singapore.

What you will be working on:
Job Responsibilities

This is an individual contributor role, and you will be part of a dynamic team to develop strategies and create solutions to incubate Materials as a deep tech growth area.

In your role, you will:

  • Analyse and synthesise findings to map industry value chains, challenges and needs to identify deep tech areas with economic opportunities that EDB should incubate and grow to a new industry in Singapore. This includes identifying and engaging foreign and local companies and their stakeholders (e.g. customers, suppliers, research institutions) to gather insights as part of strategy formulation.
  • Develop compelling value propositions to increase the attractiveness of Singapore as an innovation destination for foreign deep tech companies. This includes collaborating with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. industry groups in EDB, other government agencies and industry partners) to co-create solutions.
  • Incubate emerging deep tech areas by engaging and attracting foreign deep tech companies to consider Singapore as their location to conduct joint research efforts with local entities (e.g., local companies and our public research institutes) and site their regional and global activities here.
What we are looking for:
Requirements
  • A degree in material science and engineering, or other degrees relevant to advanced materials are preferred.
  • At least 3 years of working experience in technical-related sectors, preferably in chemical and materials. Candidates with prior investment experience in startups is a plus.
  • Demonstrates a keen sense of business acumen with strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills. Additional Finance related qualification such as MBA or CFA would be of significant advantage.Resourceful with a self-starter mindset; strong ability to develop and execute ideas and initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills; is adept at engaging a range of internal and external stakeholders across seniority levels.
  • Strong team player in an agile environment; versatile and open to learn, explore, and experiment.
