Position Overview

The Junior Automation Project Engineer supports the delivery of automation systems for pharmaceutical or biotechnology projects under the guidance of senior automation and project engineers. The role focuses on supporting project execution activities, including documentation preparation, testing coordination, vendor interaction, and site-based support to ensure automation systems are delivered in compliance with GMP and overall project requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support automation activities for manufacturing equipment, process skids, and utility-related automation systems, as applicable
  • Assist in coordinating automation tasks across project phases, including design, installation, testing, and handover to operations
  • Track automation-related action items, issues, and deliverables to support timely project execution
  • Assist in the preparation, maintenance, and review of automation documentation, including Functional Specifications (FS), configuration summaries, and FAT/SAT/IQ/OQ protocols and reports
  • Support document formatting, version control, and controlled document management in line with GMP requirements
  • Assist with deviation management and change control documentation under supervision
  • Support FAT and SAT execution with vendors and system integrators
  • Assist with on-site commissioning and testing activities such as loop checks, functional testing, and alarm and interlock verification
  • Record test results, support issue tracking, and assist with closure of punch list items
  • Coordinate with automation vendors, system integrators, project engineering teams, CQV, and QA teams to support site readiness and testing activities
  • Participate in project meetings, workshops, and technical discussions as required
  • Build working knowledge of automation platforms (PLC, SCADA, DCS), the GMP automation lifecycle, and project execution workflows
  • Follow established procedures and best practices while proactively seeking guidance and feedback to develop technical competency
Required Qualifications
  • Diploma or Bachelors degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 2–5 years of experience in automation, engineering, or project support roles
  • Internship or project exposure within pharmaceutical, biotech, or manufacturing environments is an advantage
  • Fresh graduates with relevant academic training or project experience are welcome to apply
  • Basic understanding of PLC, SCADA, and DCS concepts, industrial automation systems, and GMP documentation practices
  • Familiarity with automation drawings such as I/O lists and control diagrams, as well as testing and commissioning concepts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
