Faststream is partnering with a maritime organisation who is seeking an experienced Engineering Leader to oversee fleet engineering strategy, asset integrity, and technical excellence across a complex marine operation.
This is a leadership role with responsibility for driving engineering performance, modernisation, safety, and long‑term fleet sustainability, while leading and developing a high‑calibre engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership to the Engineering function, guiding Engineering Managers and technical teams to deliver strong operational performance aligned with organisational objectives
- Set and execute engineering strategy, budgets, and governance frameworks covering maintenance, repair, overhaul, and lifecycle asset management
- Ensure high standards of safety, reliability, cost control, and regulatory compliance across the fleet, in line with internal policies and external audit requirements
- Lead data‑driven analysis of asset performance, failure trends, and technical risks, implementing both immediate corrective actions and long‑term solutions
- Oversee vessel newbuilds, life‑extension programmes, refurbishments, and major upgrades, including design reviews, project delivery, commissioning, and sea trials
- Champion engineering innovation, digitalisation, and technology adoption to improve fleet efficiency and future‑proof operations
- Partner closely with Operations, Safety, Finance, Procurement, and other internal stakeholders to strengthen end‑to‑end fleet processes and cross‑functional effectiveness
- Drive effective vendor and contractor management, ensuring cost optimisation, supply chain resilience, and sustained asset availability
- Lead engineering’s contribution to sustainability and decarbonisation initiatives, including alternative fuels, energy‑efficiency measures, and emissions‑reduction strategies
- Support business growth by partnering with commercial and business development teams on engineering inputs for turnkey solutions, overseas expansion, and new market opportunities
- Work collaboratively with HR and union stakeholders to support workforce engagement, capability building, change management, and productivity initiatives
- Develop and implement structured programs for competency development, performance management, and professional growth of engineering personnel
- Foster a high‑performance engineering culture built on safety, governance, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Engage with regulators, government agencies, classification societies, technology partners, and academic institutions as required
- Lead special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by senior management
Requirements
- Leadership experience in marine engineering, fleet management, or offshore/maritime operations (no seafaring experience required).
- Strong background in asset management, maintenance strategy, and large‑scale technical operations.
- Proven experience managing complex stakeholders, vendors, and regulatory interfaces.
- Demonstrated leadership in driving change, innovation, and team development.
- Exposure to sustainability, decarbonisation, or alternative fuels initiatives will be highly advantageous.
