Role Overview
In this role, you will lead and manage the APAC Claims & Insurance team, driving a high-performance and customer‑centric culture. You will oversee Hull & Machinery (H&M) incidents, Crew and P&I claims, and Cargo Claims (POD Asia) across the region, ensuring timely and effective claims handling, risk mitigation, and recovery optimisation. Working closely with Head Office, you will also provide strategic guidance and advisory support to internal stakeholders across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Marine Claims (Hull & Machinery (H&M), Crew, P&I)
- Manage major vessel casualties (including fire, grounding, collision, salvage, and General Average), ensuring timely, accurate and commercially sound claims processing.
- Oversee H&M, P&I and other fleet insurance covers, including proper notification, filing and coordination with insurers, brokers, correspondents and surveyors.
- Lead causation and liability investigations, identify third party exposure, and maximise recoveries from insurers and responsible third parties.
- Negotiate settlements and recoveries on optimal legal and commercial terms, safeguarding the company’s interests and relationships.
Cargo Claims & Litigations
- Handle customer cargo claims, lawsuits, and recovery actions initiated by insurers, lawyers and third parties across the Asia region, in line with company policies.
- Ensure cargo claims are resolved efficiently with minimal operational and market impact while protecting CMA CGM’s legal and commercial position.
- Manage Serenity (self‑insured) and Elite customer claims strictly in accordance with company SOPs and service commitments.
Strategic & Leadership Functions
- Lead, mentor and develop the APAC Claims & Insurance team, setting clear objectives, KPIs and standards to ensure alignment with business strategy.
- Provide legal and operational advice on emerging risks, contractual clauses and non‑standard or complex situations to commercial, operational and management stakeholders.
- Identify process and knowledge gaps, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and implement best practices to reduce legal, financial and operational exposure.
- Collaborate closely with Head Office and regional functions, and participate in cross‑functional projects and casualty response as required; occasional business travel is expected.
What We’re Looking For
- Ideally at least 10 years’ experience in marine insurance and claims (cargo, H&M, P&I) gained within a ship‑owning company, P&I Club, marine insurer or maritime law firm.
- Strong knowledge of maritime law, international conventions (e.g. Hague Visby Rules) and marine insurance practices, with solid exposure to Asia Pacific jurisdictions.
- Proficiency in MS Office and experience with SAP and specialised claims management systems.
- Proven track record in leading, supervising and developing a regional or multi‑location team.
- Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels.
- Resilient, proactive and solution‑oriented, able to manage high workloads and tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Cost‑conscious with strong analytical skills, data discipline and a structured approach to reporting and decision making.
Why Join CMA CGM?
- Be part of a global leader in shipping and logistics with ambitious growth plans.
- Work in a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive environment.
- Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
- Opportunities for professional growth and regional exposure.
