Job description

The Counsellor is responsible for the delivery of direct care of service to clients with mental health issues, including assessment, casework management, counselling, psychoeducation under the supervision of the Senior Counsellor.

To ensure a holistic care approach, he/she may also be required to collaborate with other community agencies, based on the needs of the client(s).

Working closely with the Team Lead, Senior Counsellor and other team members, he/she will participate in discussions and provide feedback on new and/or existing workflow processes and guideline.

Major responsibilities
Conduct assessments
  • Conduct intake screening and using psycho-social and psychological measurement tools as a base line assessment.
  • Manage clients with psychological and mental health conditions.
  • Prepare and document assessment reports for routine cases.
  • Identify gaps in assessment tools in relation to application in local contexts and propose possible contextualisation to supervisor.
  • Deliver case presentations within psychological services.
Deliver interventions
  • Perform case formulation and implement interventions as per evidence-based and data driven.
  • Collaborate and co-manage with the treatment & intervention team, the psychiatrist and other allied health workers within the mental health ecosystem.
  • Deliver interventions for cases including medico-legal and forensic cases under supervision.
  • Identify areas of improvements to existing interventions based on research and sector trends.
  • Deliver psychoeducation, psycho-social and behaviour interventions.
  • Apply appropriate psychotherapy interventions such as CBT, DBT, Family therapy or any other appropriate approaches.
Build stakeholder relationships or capacity
  • Provide relevant case inputs to other specialised departments and relevant professionals.
  • Support in the development of YIT service planning document and manual including set up requirements (infrastructure, manpower, training, recruitment) and processes (outreach, screening, mental health information, service linkage & follow-up).
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver and improve client care and services.
Maintain professional, legal and ethical standards
  • Responsible for maintaining client records that are accurate and timely for submission for data analysis, in accordance with the YIT programme requirement.
  • Keep and maintain client and programme data and documents, in accordance to the YIT programme requirement, as well as the prevailing personal data protection and security guidelines.
  • Adhere to professional standards in clinical, legal and ethical practices.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures for professional practice.
  • Ensure attendance in training and supervision sessions, where relevant, as part of the staff competency required by the YIT programme.
  • Identify areas of improvement in client care and services for quality improvement projects.
Uplift professional practice in Counselling or psychology
  • Assist in the delivery of training programmes as part of continuing professional development.
  • Deliver psychoeducation programmes for clients and other organisations.
  • Identify areas of improvement in models of client care and services based on evidence-based practices.
  • Perform data collection and analysis to support research.
  • Provide guidance to peers and interns.
Any other duties as assigned.
