Overview

We are seeking an experienced CNC Surface Grinding Engineer / Technician to join our precision manufacturing team. Candidate should have hands-on experience operating, programming, and maintaining CNC surface grinding machines to achieve tight tolerances and superior surface finishes on critical components. This role is vital to ensuring the dimensional accuracy and surface integrity of parts used in high-performance applications across industries such as semiconductors, aerospace, automotive, and precision tooling.

Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation & Setup
  • Operate and set up CNC Surface Grinding Machines (e.g., Okamoto, Jones & Shipman, Chevalier, or equivalent).
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and process sheets to determine grinding specifications and tolerances.
  • Select and dress grinding wheels, ensuring optimal surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
  • Load, align, and secure workpieces using proper fixturing techniques to prevent deflection or distortion.
Programming & Process Optimization
  • Create and modify CNC grinding programs using G-code or proprietary machine control software.
  • Optimize grinding parameters such as wheel speed, feed rate, and depth of cut for productivity and surface quality.
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for repeatable and reliable grinding processes.
Quality Control & Inspection
  • Perform in-process and final inspections using precision instruments (micrometers, CMMs, profilometers, height gauges, etc.).
  • Ensure components meet all geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) requirements.
  • Troubleshoot dimensional and surface finish issues, implementing corrective actions as needed.
Maintenance & Continuous Improvement
  • Conduct routine maintenance on CNC surface grinding machines to ensure consistent performance.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams for machine calibration, wheel balancing, and coolant system upkeep.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and cycle-time optimization.
Requirements
  • Diploma, Associate, or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in CNC surface grinding operations.
  • Strong understanding of grinding principles, including wheel selection, dressing, coolant application, and thermal effects.
  • Familiarity with metrology tools and precision inspection techniques.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles.
  • Experience with precision flatness and parallelism control for tight-tolerance parts.
  • Knowledge of materials behaviour during grinding (metals, ceramics, or hard alloys).
  • Exposure to automation and CNC integration, including robotic part loading.
  • Experience working in ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 / AS9100 quality environments.
