Assistant / QS Manager
Responsibilities
- Must have demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team of Quantity Surveyors, ensuring efficient delegation of tasks, quality control of deliverables, and alignment with project goals. Skilled in mentoring junior QS staff, coordinating team efforts across multiple projects, and fostering a collaborative working environment to enhance productivity and professional development.
- Must be responsible for providing strategic cost and contract advice to support decision-making, mitigate financial risk, and ensure alignment between project delivery and commercial objectives.
- Play a pivotal role in managing the financial aspects of construction projects.
- Will be responsible for estimating project remains financially viable from inception to completion.
- Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects based on architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and other relevant documents.
- Collaborate with design and engineering teams to understand project requirements and provide cost advice during the planning phase.
- Develop, monitor, and control project budgets throughout the construction lifestyle.
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure that budgetary constraints are adhered to and financial goals are achieved.
- Assist in the tendering process by preparing and evaluating tender documents.
- Review contractor and supplier bids, negotiate contracts, and ensure compliance with project specifications and budget constraints.
- Implement effective cost control measures, regularly monitoring and analysing project costs.
- Identify and report on variations, and work with project teams to address any potential cost overruns.
- Collaborate with the design and construction teams to identify opportunities for value engineering and cost optimization without compromising project quality.
- Conduct detailed quantity take-offs from construction drawings to estimate materials, labour, and equipment requirements.
- Identify potential financial risks related to project costs and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Work with project teams to anticipate and address financial challenges proactively.
- Establish and maintain effective communication channels with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Provide regular updates on project costs and financial status.
- Be cognizant of contract law and its application to the tender contract documents.
- Ensure compliance with relevant local regulations, industry standards, and company policies related to cost management.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 4 to 5 years previous work experience as a Quantity Surveyor, in built environment or related field.
- Professional accreditation is desirable.
- Professional experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry.
- Proficient in cost estimation software and MS Excel.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
