Job summary

A community counselling organization in Singapore seeks a qualified individual to develop and evaluate counselling programs while providing supervision to staff and helpline services. Candidates should possess a Master’s degree in counselling with at least 5 years of relevant experience, bilingual skills in English and Chinese, and a passion for helping others. This role offers the opportunity to contribute significantly to community mental health services and collaborate with various stakeholders for best counselling practices.

Job description
Key Responsibility Areas
  • Support Head of Counselling in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Counselling & related programmes according to SOPs, ethical guidelines, and best practices
  • Supervise and mentor counsellors and interns, offering guidance and training to ensure quality care delivery
  • Support Head of Counselling in managing the Centre’s counselling caseload, including assignment of cases to counsellors and interns
  • Attend to helpline calls as the lead helpline counsellor, providing emotional support, assessment and triage of needs, information and referral services if needed
  • Oversee the input and maintenance of accurate and confidential client records and case notes on the Client Management System
  • Provide regular updates to the board of directors on the Centre’s programme and services
  • Build partnerships and referral pathways with other community partners such as charities, social service agencies and churches.
  • Lead and/or support new initiatives to expand service & programme offerings
  • Lead and/or support community outreach efforts including talks to the public and corporations
  • Provide individual, couple and/or family counselling assessment and intervention to individuals and family members affected by addiction issues
  • Support the preparation of data and responses to external stakeholders such as media platforms and grant administrators
Candidate Requirements
  • Master’s degree in counselling, or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of experience in counselling, social service or similar sector
  • Bilingual (English and Chinese)
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication skills
  • Familiar with Google and Microsoft Workspace applications
  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
Preferred achievements / characteristics:
  • Registered counsellor with a recognised professional body (e.g., SAC, SPS)
  • Experience and/or knowledge of the social service sector
  • A heart for people – empathetic and willing to attend to others
  • Good leadership skills or willing to grow in management skills
  • Team player
