KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Singapore Academy of Law is seeking an Assistant Director / Senior Manager (Strategic Projects, Ethics, Analytics & Research (SPEAR)) to drive initiatives that strengthen professional standards and advance the transformation of the legal sector. This role offers the opportunity to lead cross-functional projects, conduct research on legal ethics and sustainability, and engage with key stakeholders to influence policy and practice.

KEY SPECIFICATIONS
Project Management and Operational Support
  • Support the development and implementation of cross-functional projects aligned with SAL’s transformation agenda and professional standards initiatives.
  • Assist in organising and delivering key platforms such as the Legal Profession Symposium, the 5 Workstreams of the Future Legal Profession Workplan and others, contributing to content development, logistics, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Work closely with departments to track project progress, align timelines and deliverables, and provide operational support for cross-team initiatives.
Policy and Sectoral Research
  • Conduct applied research on legal ethics, lawyering sustainability, professionalism, and future legal trends to support policy formulation and programme design.
  • Assist in drafting reports, frameworks, and publications to inform the legal community and support professional development objectives.
  • Maintain awareness of international developments and compile sectoral insights to support SAL’s positioning in legal ethics and professional standards.
Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships
  • Support engagement with institutional stakeholders (e.g. SG Courts, MinLaw, SILE, Law Society, law schools) through meeting coordination, minutes, and follow-ups.
  • Contribute to the preparation of consultation documents, presentation decks, and workshop materials for stakeholder discussions.
  • Facilitate collaborative initiatives and ensure smooth communication between internal and external partners.
Governance and Secretariat Duties
  • Provide secretariat support to the Future of the Legal Profession Committee (FLPC), the Promotion of Legal Technology Innovation Committee (PLTIC), including coordination of meetings, preparation of papers, tracking and execution of follow-up actions.
  • Ensure documentation, reporting, and alignment of committee work with SAL’s initiatives and senior management expectations.
  • And any other duties as may be assigned
REQUIREMENTS
  • A good law degree from a recognised university; additional training in public policy or project management would be an advantage.
  • At least 5–7 years of relevant experience, preferably in legal, policy, or professional development roles.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines.
  • Good research and writing abilities, including experience preparing reports, minutes, and presentation materials.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence in liaising with stakeholders and supporting senior leadership.
  • A strong interest in legal ethics, professionalism, lawyering sustainability, and the evolving role of the legal profession.
