About the Role
The Academic Director is responsible for overseeing the academic governance, quality assurance, and continuous improvement of the school’s academic and student service functions. This position ensures that the institution’s policies align with regulatory requirements and uphold the highest standards of educational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the development, implementation, and management of governance structures related to Academic and Student Services.
- Ensure that all policies, processes, and governance models are effectively communicated and adhered to by Academic and Student Services staff.
- Advise senior management on EduTrust compliance, academic operations, and student service matters.
- Support top management in reviewing and refining the institution’s strategy, mission, and vision.
- Participate in the evaluation of the Chief Executive Officer’s performance as a member of the Executive Board (where applicable).
- Act as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies and external agencies, including ICA, MOM, and SSG.
- Lead the Academic Board and oversee all academic operations and decision-making.
- Supervise all examination-related matters, including chairing Examination Board meetings, approving assessment materials, and validating student grades prior to release.
- Approve and oversee decisions on student admissions, curriculum development, course review, academic scheduling, and lecturer deployment.
- Uphold academic integrity and ensure compliance with institutional and EduTrust standards.
- Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and professional development of Academic and Student Services staff, ensuring fair and merit-based practices in accordance with TAFEP principles.
- Conduct regular performance appraisals (mid-year and annual) and set clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) aligned with institutional goals.
- Review departmental work plans to ensure targets and objectives are met effectively.
- Identify areas for staff performance improvement and implement appropriate training or intervention strategies.
- Advise management on teaching and curriculum enhancement, ensuring pedagogical improvements are reflected in the school’s offerings.
Requirements
- A recognised postgraduate qualification (Master’s or higher) in Education, Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a Private Education Institution (PEI) in Singapore.
- Strong understanding of EduTrust and ERF requirements and processes.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese, in order to liaise effectively with English- and Chinese-speaking stakeholders.
