About AXA XL

We are a leading provider of insurance and reinsurance offering innovative risk management solutions for businesses worldwide. We partner with those who move the world forward, navigating complex risks and working across diverse industries to support and empower our clients. Combining technical excellence with a forward‑thinking mindset, we offer an environment where people are encouraged to learn, grow, and make an impact.

About the Graduate Programme

Our 2-year Graduate Programme gives you a structured entry into underwriting — one of the most critical and intellectually challenging roles in insurance. You’ll receive on‑the‑job training, mentorship, and exposure to real accounts, helping you build both technical and commercial skills.

You’ll rotate within the Casualty underwriting function, claims, and middle office, gaining exposure to different products, risks, and stakeholders, while developing your technical and analytical skills.

This program will launch in Jun/July 2026.

What you’ll be doing

Casualty (third‑party liability) pays when our client is legally responsible for injury to other people or damage to other people’s property, and it also pays the costs to defend those claims.

As a Graduate Trainee in Casualty Underwriting, you’ll learn how risks are evaluated, priced, and managed across casualty lines of business. You’ll work alongside experienced underwriters and gain exposure to the full underwriting lifecycle.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Support underwriters in reviewing submissions, assessing risks, and preparing quotes
  • Assist with policy documentation, renewals, and portfolio management
  • Learn how to analyse data, exposures, and risk information
  • Collaborate with distribution and claims teams to understand how decisions impact clients
  • Participate in underwriting projects and process improvements
  • Build technical knowledge of casualty products and market trends

You will report to Casualty Underwriting Manager.

What you will bring

  • Robust collaborative skills in a fast‑paced team‑centric environment

Our 2023‑26 Sustainability strategy, called “Roots of resilience”, focuses on protecting natural ecosystems, addressing climate change, and embedding sustainable practices across our operations.

Our Pillars:

  • Valuing nature: How we impact nature affects how nature impacts us. Resilient ecosystems – the foundation of a sustainable planet and society – are essential to our future. We’re committed to protecting and restoring nature – from mangrove forests to the bees in our backyard – by increasing biodiversity awareness and inspiring clients and colleagues to put nature at the heart of their plans.
  • Addressing climate change: The effects of a changing climate are far‑reaching and significant. Unpredictable weather, increasing temperatures, and rising sea levels cause both social inequalities and environmental disruption. We're building a net zero strategy, developing insurance products and services, and mobilizing to advance thought leadership and investment in societal‑led solutions.
  • Integrating ESG: All companies have a role to play in building a more resilient future. Incorporating ESG considerations into our internal processes and practices builds resilience from the roots of our business. We’re training our colleagues, engaging our external partners, and evolving our sustainability governance and reporting.
  • AXA Hearts in Action: We have established volunteering and charitable giving programs to help colleagues support causes that matter most to them, known as AXA XL’s “Hearts in Action” programs. These include our Matching Gifts program, Volunteering Leave, and our annual volunteering day – the Global Day of Giving.
