Job summary

Tractebel seeks a Senior Site Construction Engineer for the Al Khushaybi BESS IPP project in Al Qassim, KSA. You will oversee construction, ensure compliance with drawings and standards, and coordinate with EPCs, OEMs, and the grid operator to meet schedule and performance targets.

With at least 8 years in substation projects in KSA, you will drive safety, quality, and technical excellence, coordinating across stakeholders to support grid integration and plant reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• Substation experience in KSA with SEC & National Grid required.
• 8+ years of experience in related field.
• Experience with BESS integration and grid interface preferred.

1. Job Summary

Why does this role exist?

Tractebel has been appointed as the Owner's Engineer for the Al Khushaybi Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Independent Power Project (IPP) in the Al Qassim Region, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The project is being developed by ENGIE and its consortium partners under the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) Battery Energy Storage Program. The Al Khushaybi BESS facility has a capacity of 500 MW with 4 hours of storage duration(2,000MWh).

As Owner's Engineer, Tractebel is responsible for providing independent technical oversight and assurance throughout the project lifecycle, including design review, engineering management, technology assessment, construction supervision, testing and commissioning support, and verification of compliance with contractual, regulatory, and international technical standards.

This role exists to support the successful delivery of one of Saudi Arabia's flagship utility-scale energy storage projects by ensuring technical excellence, project quality, safety, reliability, and timely execution. The position will contribute to the integration of large-scale renewable energy into the Kingdom's power system, enhance grid stability and operational flexibility, and support Saudi Arabia's vision of increasing renewable energy penetration and achieving a more sustainable and resilient electricity network.

The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating with the Developer, EPC Contractors, OEMs, Grid Operator, SPPC, and other project stakeholders to ensure that project objectives are achieved in accordance with schedule, budget, and performance requirements while meeting international best practices for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems.

2. Responsibilities

• Supervises construction works to verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
• Monitors quality, progress, and workmanship and witnesses inspections and tests.
• Coordinates all Engineer’s site services and disciplines and interfaces with EPC and Client teams.
• Ensures site execution aligns with design intent and applicable standards.
• Identifies non-conformities, site risks, and delays, and ensures timely escalation.
• Prepares and submits regular site progress and event reports
• Maintains accurate site records and supports milestone achievement and handover.
• Act focal point for all site-related matters from OE side

3. Education

Mandatory

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• Must Have Substation Experience in KSA with SEC & National Grid

Preferred

• Relevant professional certification related to the role/discipline
• Professional membership or accreditation, where applicable
• Software/system/tool certification relevant to the role
• Must Have Substation Experience in KSA
• Experience with BESS integration along with Grid preferable
