Role Context
The Mechanical Engineer will provide technical support throughout the full project lifecycle, from design review and multidisciplinary coordination through construction, testing, commissioning, and final handover. Working closely with contractors, consultants, vendors, Quality, HSE, Planning, Procurement, commissioning teams, and other engineering disciplines, the role will help ensure that mechanical systems are technically compliant, constructible, reliable, maintainable, and ready for operational use within complex airport and infrastructure environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and coordinate mechanical engineering activities across airport, aviation, infrastructure, building, and utility work packages.
- Examine mechanical drawings, specifications, calculations, technical reports, equipment schedules, and design documentation.
- Coordinate mechanical interfaces with Civil, Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation, Fire and Life Safety, ICT, and Architectural disciplines.
- Provide technical support for HVAC, chilled water, ventilation, plumbing, drainage, pumping, water supply, utility, and specialist mechanical systems.
- Review equipment selections, data sheets, technical specifications, performance requirements, and vendor documentation.
- Evaluate contractor and supplier technical submissions for compliance with approved project requirements.
- Support review of Material Submittals, Method Statements, Inspection and Test Plans, and associated engineering documentation.
- Monitor mechanical installation works and confirm compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and construction requirements.
- Provide site engineering support and help resolve technical issues encountered during construction.
- Review and respond to RFIs, technical queries, design clarifications, and site-related engineering matters.
- Conduct site inspections and verify that mechanical installations meet approved design and quality requirements.
- Coordinate with Quality teams to ensure inspections, testing, documentation, and acceptance activities are completed.
- Support pre-commissioning, testing, commissioning, and functional performance verification of mechanical systems.
- Review commissioning procedures and confirm that system testing reflects approved design intent.
- Support equipment start-up, balancing, pressure testing, flushing, functional checks, and system verification.
- Coordinate integration between new mechanical installations and existing airport infrastructure.
- Review proposed design changes, technical alternatives, field modifications, and value engineering proposals.
- Identify constructability concerns, interface conflicts, design discrepancies, and technical risks before they affect project progress.
- Work with Procurement teams and vendors on equipment requirements, technical documentation, inspections, and delivery coordination.
- Participate in multidisciplinary coordination meetings with consultants, contractors, suppliers, vendors, and project stakeholders.
- Track engineering actions, technical submissions, outstanding comments, and required approvals through closure.
- Review as-built drawings, O and M manuals, commissioning records, testing documentation, warranties, and handover dossiers.
- Prepare mechanical engineering reports, technical summaries, progress updates, and management information when required.
- Ensure mechanical systems comply with applicable ASHRAE, ASME, NFPA, IPC, IMC, SMACNA, ASTM, ISO, and project-specific standards.
- Support value engineering initiatives that improve performance, reliability, maintainability, constructability, and lifecycle cost.
- Coordinate with HSE personnel to ensure installation and commissioning activities comply with project safety requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, inspectors, supervisors, and construction personnel.
- Capture mechanical engineering lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement across project delivery activities.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor 's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
- Proven experience within airport, aviation, infrastructure, building, utility, or major construction projects.
- Strong understanding of mechanical building services and infrastructure systems.
- Practical knowledge of HVAC, chilled water, plumbing, drainage, pumps, utilities, piping, and mechanical equipment.
- Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors, consultants, suppliers, and specialist vendors.
- Good understanding of design development, construction, installation, inspection, testing, commissioning, and handover processes.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, technical calculations, and system schematics.
- Professional Engineering certification is preferred.
- PMP or equivalent project management training would be advantageous.
- LEED, CEM, ASHRAE, or similar technical certification would add value depending on project scope.
- Relevant HSE training or certification is beneficial.
- Strong technical judgment with the ability to resolve design and construction problems effectively.
- Good communication skills for coordinating technical matters across engineering, site, contractor, and client teams.
- Strong attention to engineering quality, system performance, and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to handle multiple technical priorities within demanding project schedules.
- Willingness to guide junior engineers and contribute to team capability development.
