Job summary
A leading Southeast Asian superapp is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead their Service Mesh team in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. This role involves designing and scaling service mesh infrastructure, mentoring engineers, and collaborating with service teams to enhance microservices communication. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of experience in infrastructure engineering and strong expertise in service mesh technologies like Istio. Qualifications
- 5+ years in infrastructure/platform engineering, with 2+ years managing teams.
- Expertise in service mesh technologies (Istio, Consul, or Envoy).
- Hands-on experience with AWS Kubernetes, API gateways, and cloud networking.
- Grasp of security fundamentals (mTLS, RBAC, zero-trust).
- Ability to debug distributed systems.
Responsibilities
- Mentor engineers, foster a culture of ownership, and hire top talent.
- Increase adoption of Istio, ensuring it meets performance, security, and scalability needs.
- Work with service teams and platform teams to align service mesh capabilities.
- Solve challenges like latency spikes, sidecar overhead, and cross-group routing.
- Escalate issues for service mesh outages and complex debugging.
