Join to apply for the Systems Engineering Radar P/L Architectural Engineering role at Thales.
Permanent responsibility
In the frame of programmes and studies undertaken by the Radar Instrument Engineering Unit, contributing to engineering radar design and development activities.
Level of Responsibility required
LR 8
Location
Rome
Task description
- The Radar Architect engineer covers the definition of RF Payload and Digital Equipment Section.
- The candidate shall perform:
- The evaluation of radar input requirement and address toward the radar engineering analyst team, the main performance analysis needs to support the architecture and the HW/SW design.
- The trade‑off between possible radar instruments solution, such as the definition of radar instrument architectures and of their main sub‑systems (antenna, antenna front‑end, RF section, digital section). In particular, the candidate shall focus his/her activity on the definition of the digital section of synthetic aperture radars (SAR), the C&C design definition, timing, FDIR and of the related on‑board processing (e.g. digital waveform generation and management, echo digital filtering, digital beamforming, data decimation, data compression and formatting).
- The definition of radar subsystem/units requirements, addressing toward the HW/SW team the needs in terms of functional decomposition and performance needs for digital, RF and SW sections.
- The participation to design review both toward higher level and toward lower level as per specific rules and duties.
- The contribution to the requirement traceability and maintenance as per lower level outcome.
- The support the Radar System Engineering Manager for RFW/D evaluation coming from subsystem/unit level versus the defined architecture and budget.
- The contribution for the definition and maintenance of radar payloads budgets.
- The definition and development of software tools (e.g. Matlab tools, Excel worksheets, etc.) for supporting simulations and analyses required for the phases of design and verification of radar payloads hardware.
- The evaluation of test results and participation to test campaigns: the candidate shall contribute to evaluate radar payload performance by taking part to test campaigns and evaluating test results at level of instrument, assembly, equipment and unit.
- The participation to meetings with the Radar Instrument design team.
- The participation to meetings/reviews with internal and external sub‑contractors.
- The participation to meetings/reviews with both internal and external customers.
- The preparation of documents and handout.
Personal requirements
- Master degree or PhD in either Remote Sensing Engineering, or Telecommunication Engineering, or Electronics Engineering.
- Background in the field of HW design for RF and digital electronics, simulations and analysis; skills and experience in the fields of antenna and RF design are considered as distinctive elements.
- Knowledge of Matlab, MS Office products.
- Knowledge of the English language (at least at intermediate level) for both written and verbal communication.
- Attitude to teamwork.
