Position Summary
The Research Center Director is responsible for the oversite and direction of the facilities in Novara and Galliera. In this role the director is responsible for the people that work there, the HS&O responsibilities of the sites, all financial, operational efficiency and safety aspects. In this role you will ensure that the company is at the forefront of research & development, is maintained as a center of excellence and strives to continually improve products and services.

Role Responsibilities
- Lead and guide all staff in the R&D facilities (Novara research center & Galliera field station), ensure that they carry out their responsibilities effectively and that there is a safe and healthy work environment.
- Take the role of “employer” for the sites and in this role ensure the HS&O obligations are met, be accountable for overall site safety and all the obligations related to this position.
- Drive and create an environment within the sites which promotes the Gowan culture, fosters collaboration and innovative thinking, work to inspire all that work there.
- Promote collaboration, not only within the site but across a wider organisation with key stakeholders. Drive people to build internal networks and to share ideas and information.
- Take responsibility for the creation, monitoring and reporting of the site budgets ensuring alignment with management and accuracy in the planning and execution.
- Drive efficiency, planning and execution in the activities across the site, look for continual improvement where relevant and ensure good collaboration with organisational leadership.
- Propose and develop processes and process improvements across the site, do this by guiding and helping others take responsibility in their respective areas.
- Contribute to the development and evolution of the company’s R&D strategy.
- Develop and maintain contacts with relevant organizations in the industry, also internally, for the exchange of ideas and information.
- Evaluate the most effective means of communicating and sharing the strengths and abilities of the sites across the organization and external partners and customers.
Education
- Bachelor's degree, master’s degree, or PhD in a scientific, research or related degree.
Experience / Skills / Abilities
- At least 10 years’ management experience, including experience in managing a research facility and associated teams.
- A thorough understanding of the R&D environment.
- Deep experience in research and management in the chemical or agricultural industry along with an understanding of industry challenges and future trends.
- Financial analysis skills and experience managing budgets for large departments.
- Experience working in a global, multi-cultural business environment.
- Excellent influence, communication, and assertiveness skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across functions and teams.
- Proven ability to manage diverse and large teams.
Job Expectations / Working Conditions
- Travel up to 20% of time
- Office based full time in Novara, Italy
