Job Description
This is a tactical role responsible for providing support to business teams for commercial and corporate transactions, advising and resolving commercial legal matters, conducting negotiations, advising the business on disputes and potential disputes, and acting as a process‑owner for all commercial legal processes.
Responsibilities
- Acts as the main escalation and supervision point for the Commercial Team
- Advises on and resolves matters, including contract drafting and negotiation
- Coordinates the commercial team and overall use of external counsel and legal support of other departments
- Conducts legal research and analysis on selected topics, prepares memoranda, opinions and position papers upon request
- Acts as main liaison point for banking and financing transactions
- Resolves complex and general commercial transactions with minimal supervision
- Assists operations in connection with the Company Contract Management System and ensures strong coordination with various business units within the Company
- Proactively addresses new processes to expedite legal support, legal documentation and management of risks
- Responsible for spearheading the department's improvement projects related to streamlining documentation and contracting processes
- Implements processes, procedures and documentation for new services
- Maintains the Company’s standard template agreements (including service schedules) and related documentation

Other Responsibilities
- Review, drafting and negotiating standard and non‑standard commercial agreements for the provision of services, with minimal supervision.
- Manage multiple matters at a time and ensure timely closure of transactions in accordance with company strategy and policies.
- Apply strategic and innovative thinking to support new business, including review and launch of new products and services.
- Spearhead improvement projects related to streamlining documentation and contracting processes to bring agility and simplification; create needed templates; implement processes, procedures and documentation for new services; maintain standard template agreements (including service schedules) and related documentation; work on cross‑functional team projects.
- Ensure strong coordination across various business units and management teams.
- Proactively manage risk management; document and manage legal risks and communicate same to business clients and management; advise on implementation of risk registry.
Team Management
- Regularly review team structure and assess talent requirements.
- Participate in the recruitment and selection process for team reporting to this position.
- Conduct goal setting and performance review for the team; drive team development, engage and reward initiatives; provide/ensure training for counsel and business/sales teams on legal or related issues where required.
- Build relationships with sales and business teams/senior managers.
Skills, Qualifications and Core Strengths
- Experience negotiating global or multi‑jurisdiction contracts and deals.
- Qualified with an excellent academic background.
- Law Degree from a reputable university/institution. Qualified in India with minimum post‑qualification experience of 12 to 15 years in corporate commercial law.
- Experience managing and mentoring a team.
- Experience in domestic and international corporate, commercial and contract law.
- Experience in transactional matters, especially relating to telecommunications or other technology industries.
- Excellent communication, technical and negotiation skills; ability to work autonomously and manage multiple transactions and persons across a range of relevant jurisdictions.
- Excellent technical drafter with strong understanding of contract law; judgment to elevate items where appropriate to other legal teams.
- Experience managing multiple matters at a time, including complex transactions, and proactively engaging with internal stakeholders to drive a deal to closure.
- Ability to think out of the box and to apply strategic and innovative thinking to support the business.
- Ability to work autonomously (with minimal supervision), and collaborate with other members of the legal team.
- Excellent communication skills; ability to work in an unstructured, fast‑paced, multi‑cultural environment.
- Understanding of different cultures and legal systems and ability to make fast, accurate decisions on complex legal issues facing companies on a daily basis.
