We are excited to announce a great opportunity to join our nursing team. You will support registered nursing staff to deliver high quality, person centred care for patients with mental health illness and learning disability in a forensic environment.

It is advantageous for candidates to possess a SVQ level 2 in healthcare, or working towards, or equivalent experience working within a caring or mental health or learning disability environment.

You will be able to demonstrate an ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Effective written and verbal communication skills are an essential part of this role as is the ability to carry out assigned patient care tasks effectively within a busy environment.

You will have a working knowledge of basic information technology.

Successful candidates will work a 4 days on and 2 days off shift pattern, with shifts being generated up to 12 weeks in advance. Applicants may also be rostered to work Night Duty, and work on average a 75‑hour fortnight when on Night Duty.

From 1 April 2024, the standard full‑time working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland has reduced from 37.5 to 37 hours. Part‑time staff will receive a pro‑rating reduction in hours without any loss of earnings. While the State Hospital is committed to implementing this change, full transition may not be possible in all areas from 1 April. In departments where reduced hours cannot be safely accommodated, staff may temporarily continue working 37.5 hours per week (pro‑rating) to maintain patient safety. In such cases, staff will be remunerated accordingly. The hospital remains committed to achieving full implementation as soon as it is safe to do so. A further reduction to a 36‑hour working week is planned for 1 April 2026.
