Go back Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Consultant Respiratory Medicine Special interest -Sleep & Ventilation

The closing date is 24 October 2025.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH), working with the Adult Sleep and Ventilation and General Respiratory teams across the Churchill Hospital and Horton Hospital sites based in Oxford and Banbury respectively. Prior dedicated experience working in a tertiary sleep and ventilation service is not a prerequisite, and speciality training within the role can be provided as needed. The successful applicant will join two consultants in the Adult Sleep and Ventilation Service, a regional centre with a world-class clinical and academic reputation, delivering excellence in care locally and to neighbouring counties, working in partnership with a wide OUH MDT across primary and secondary care. The team is embracing innovation to meet growing demand (replacement role).

They will join two consultants in Respiratory medicine providing in-patient care on a Respiratory ward with high-care beds at the Horton site, and contributing to a respiratory out-patient and referral service. This new service is helping to address healthcare inequality and bring specialist services to the Horton site.

In the interest of equal opportunities, we want to make sure that information about candidates is provided in the same format so all applicants should fill in the standard application form on the NHS Jobs website.

Main duties of the job

The post holder's duties are based across the OUH sites, predominantly at the Churchill and Horton sites. There are a total of 10 PAs comprising a mix of 8.5 clinical PAs and 1.5 supporting PAs.

  • Speciality work comprises respiratory sleep and ventilation, including diagnosis and management of obstructive sleep apnoea, hypoventilation and support of patients with respiratory muscle weakness.
  • The appointee will deliver in-patient care at the Horton Hospital within the Oak general ward and high-care unit, which is predominantly respiratory (approximately 3 months/ year).
  • There is a contribution to general respiratory clinics. On call commitment for acute general medicine will be at the Horton site.
  • It is a condition of the appointment that the postholder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations.
