Job description

We would love to welcome enthusiastic and motivated Educational Psychologists to our creative, friendly, and supportive service. Following the retirement of several valued colleagues, we have opportunities for new team members to help shape the future of educational psychology in Staffordshire.

Why Join Staffordshire EPS?
  • Children and families are at the heart of all we do: Our work is driven by a commitment to improving the lives of children and families across Staffordshire. We work systemically with schools, families and partners so support is holistic, inclusive and has measurable impact.
  • Innovative practice: We're central to Staffordshire's new Enhanced Assess-Plan-Do-Review (EAPDR) pathway; using psychology in a preventative, collaborative and creative way, such as using MAPS and PATHS, rather than formal report writing.
  • Impact at scale: Join nationally recognised programmes: our EP-led literacy approach, local and regional school non-attendance projects, and joint work with the Virtual School for care-experienced children. ELSA and district-commissioned non-attendance work are two in-demand examples.
  • Supportive team culture: You'll join a diverse, passionate team of Seniors, EPs TEPS and Assistants who value creativity, collaboration, and continuous learning. Comprehensive induction, regular peer supervision, and vibrant CPD, including two CPD weeks each year.
  • Your practice matters: Whether you're bringing experience, newly qualified or due to qualify in September 2026, we will support you to develop your practice and pursue your professional specialisms through development groups and research, and provide progression support for SPAs.
What We Offer
  • Salary: Soulbury A3-8 + up to 3 SPAs (progression supported).
  • Working environment: Mixed urban/rural practice; essential car user allowance; mileage & travel time policy.
  • Professional growth: Protected peer supervision time; CPD budget & CPD weeks; research and development groups; pathways for specialisms (e.g., literacy, non-attendance, care-experienced).
  • Flexibility & wellbeing: Hybrid working, flexi-time, and a proactive Senior overseeing your induction and your practice development.
  • Inclusion: A service committed to equality, diversity and anti-discriminatory practice-applications welcomed from under-represented groups.
Main Responsibilities

You will join a district team and work collaboratively with other team and service members, and with multi-agency colleagues to improve outcomes for children, young people and families by:

  • Working preventatively with a patch of schools through our traded package and SCC EAPDR process
  • Supporting children and families in the Early Years
  • Contributing to the Statutory process through EHC assessments
  • Collaborating on research, service and practice development
  • Contributing to service work on cross LA projects such as Trauma Informed, ELSA, Children's homes
  • Taking part in a vibrant CPD programme and twice yearly CPD weeks, and supporting practice development of teams and colleagues
  • Taking part in service development work on (for example) SCERTS, implementation science, equality and diversity
The Ideal Candidate
  • An honours degree in Psychology (or equivalent) recognised by the British Psychological Society (BPS)
  • Recognised postgraduate training and qualification in Educational Psychology
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), or eligibility upon qualification
  • A collaborative practitioner who values consultation, prevention and evidence-informed practice-and is eager to keep learning.

I feel well supported by my team and supervisor, and really value working closely with others in the service on commissions and projects. I feel I can be flexible and creative in my work and that my supervisor will always have my back and support me to do so - which I really value!

Ready to make a difference? We’d love to hear from you. For more information, or an informal chat, contact Melissa Jones, Principal Educational Psychologist: melissa.jones@staffordshire.gov.uk | 07970 460188

Interviews will be held on the 21st November 2025.
