Job Summary:

We are now looking for a Workflow Team Leader to take overall responsibility for the smooth running of admitted cases across all departments. This is a key operational role that ensures the hospital runs efficiently every day. You will coordinate patient flow, manage emergency scheduling, prevent delays, and lead a team to deliver outstanding service to patients, clients, and colleagues.

In this role, you will work closely with clinicians, lead nurses, and the wider hospital team to plan and coordinate daily cases, manage resources such as kennel space and theatres, and respond quickly to changes or emergencies. You will monitor efficiency, suggest improvements, and lead by example in upholding our core values. Alongside workflow management, you will be a line manager, overseeing a team that may range from 3 to 12 people, including responsibility for rotas, holiday requests, absence management, and supporting professional development.

To succeed, you will need excellent communication, time management, and organisational skills, with the ability to problem-solve and make confident decisions under pressure. You should be approachable, able to motivate your team, and have a natural ability to bring structure and method to a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in a hospital setting is essential, and ideally you will have at least one year of managerial experience. While veterinary nursing experience is an advantage, it is not essential - we welcome applicants from human healthcare or other clinical environments who can bring strong operational skills. You must be comfortable working around animals and willing to assist with basic patient handling when required.

This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week, with a preference for 5x8-hour shifts to ensure daily presence and team support. The role is fully based on-site at our Cambridgeshire hospital.

Responsibilities:

• Working in partnership with clinicians and nursing colleagues, ensure efficient scheduling and throughput of all admitted cases across all departments of the hospital.

• Ensure efficient and effective utilisation of kennel space, management of theatre and DIflow across all areas, wards and departments.

• Effective communication with clinicians and lead nurses and nursing teams, ensuring efficient scheduling of emergency procedures.

• Prevent the occurrence of delays by forward planning and ensuring timely communication across multidisciplinary areas and functions.

• Should unavoidable delays occur, ensure prompt communication with clinicians and nursing colleagues, offering alternative, viable solutions where possible.

• Monitor and evaluate efficiency in processes throughout the hospital; working to continually improve efficiency and productivity.

• Deliver a high standard of clinical and operational assistance to clinicians, ensuring an excellent standard of care is provided, at all times.

• Actively promote and champion DWR’s core values; displaying the behaviours you expect from others.

• Continue to maintain and develop your own professional knowledge and skills in line with the mandatory RCVS registration CPD requirements.

• Maintain effective and professional colleague relationships.

• Work with appropriate people/teams to find solutions and speedily and effectively resolve issues and concerns raised.

• Lead by example as an RVN ensuring a professional and positive attitude is always maintained.

• Promote Health and Safety policies and practices, ensuring compliance is always maintained.

• Manage direct reports effectively.
