Job description

The Decontamination Department is looking to recruit a hardworking, enthusiastic, flexible, and motivated individual to join the James Paget Hospital Decontamination team. The position of team leader offers the successful candidate the opportunity to work within a well-established and friendly team.

Role Overview

The Team Leader for Decontamination Services will have extensive knowledge and skills related to product requirements in line with the ISO 13485:2016 standard. They will also understand potential risks to products within a Decontamination Department. The role involves supporting the management team in ensuring staff compliance with the departmental Quality Management System, hospital policies, and procedures, and highlighting any areas of concern immediately.

The post holder will be responsible for assessing, organizing, and planning the daily workflow within the Decontamination and Endoscopy departments to ensure optimal resource utilization. They will support technicians to reduce departmental and individual non-conformances, conduct regular one-on-one meetings with staff, and provide feedback to the Deputy Decontamination Manager. The role includes deputising for the Deputy Decontamination Manager in their absence, with support from the Decontamination Manager. The candidate must be capable of root cause analysis and reporting on incidents related to products and staff, ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the department.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage and supervise the production team.
  2. Assess, plan, organize, and manage workload to ensure maximum resource utilization daily.
  3. Supervise and coordinate staff within the department on a day-to-day basis.
  4. Facilitate effective communication with departmental staff and customers, providing and receiving complex information.
  5. Support technicians' ongoing development through regular performance reviews and annual staff appraisals.
  6. Resolve day-to-day problems and queries from customers and assist the Deputy Decontamination Manager with complex complaints investigations. Ensure actions related to complaints are completed within specified timeframes.
  7. Act as Deputy Decontamination Manager in their absence, with support from the Decontamination Manager.
  8. Communicate departmental progress against targets, upcoming changes affecting production, quality issues, and general trust news to the team.
