Join our Winter Maintenance Team here at NY Highways and make a real impact this winter for the communities of North Yorkshire.

  • £21.40 per hour (Winter Driver) or £19.98 per hour (Secondman)
  • Seasonal Contract (October - April), working on a rota basis with variable hours dependant on condition
  • Selby, North Yorkshire

This role is crucial during Winter, to keep the county's roads open and safe. Our service starts with changing conditions, typically October to April, requiring around the clock efforts to maintain our large road network. This temporary winter position might be perfect role for you. Many of our casual drivers return annually, finding the role rewarding and flexible. You will serve a vital purpose in keeping residents safe and ensuring they can access work, school and healthcare, as well as supporting our emergency services to keep us all safe. Working with weather is unpredictable, so you'll follow standby rotas as shown, where standby payments cover the listed times, but actual working hours will often extend beyond them.

  • Weekday Morning (Midnight to 7.30am, Monday to Friday)
  • Weekday Evening (4.00pm to Midnight, Monday to Friday)
  • Weekend (24 hours, both Saturday and Sunday, AM and PM)
  • Additional hours on top of the standby arrangement will be within the following times, with your availability required to fill the rota: Mornings: Between Midnight - 12noon Evenings: Between 12noon - Midnight

What You'll Need

  • Willingness to complete Winter 6159 Certification (training provided if not already held).
What we can offer you
  • A Competitive Hourly Rate of £21.40 per hour as a Driver £19.98 per hour as a Secondman
  • Standby payments calculated at £24 per shift, totalling £120 per week for weekday mornings and up to £216 for combined weekday evenings and weekends.
  • Accrued Annual Leave for time worked
  • Training on a City and Guilds Winter Maintenance Certification (Units Specific)
