Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Nottinghamshire is seeking an experienced Welding Manager to oversee its Fabrication & Welding facility. The ideal candidate should have a strong welding and fabrication background, with experience in managing teams, and will be responsible for managing all technical welding activities. The position offers a competitive salary of circa £50,000 plus comprehensive benefits including a discretionary bonus scheme and 25 days of holiday.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience with various welding processes including TIG, MMA, MIG/MAG, and FCAW.

Welding Manager

EMBS Engineering has been exclusively tasked with identifying an experienced individual who can manage our Fabrication & Welding facility on a permanent basis.

This is a truly exciting opportunity as the Fabrication division has grown from strength to strength over the last 3 years, now housing circa 10 highly talented TIG Welders that manufacture complex components for high‑profile customers in the Oil & Gas, Defence and Nuclear industries.

This division has received consistent investment including new technology, equipment and most recently its own dedicated premises.

The business has a reputation as a market‑leading, award‑winning precision engineering company, traditionally machining intricate, medium‑sized detailed components but now also offering an additional arm – Welding & Fabrication.

The business is growing through new client wins and existing customers placing new orders, presenting a fascinating and challenging time.

Our client seeks a talented engineer with a strong Fabrication & Welding background, who has managed Fabrication &/or Welding teams, and who is looking for a new career where they can have the autonomy to help grow the division.

Job Responsibilities
  • Review, plan and manage the execution of all technical welding activities.
  • Identify and develop new welding procedures required by projects, including sourcing equipment, materials and resources.
  • Ensure sufficient qualified resources are available, including revalidation of welder qualifications in line with code or client requirements.
  • Monitor monthly welding performance and develop action plans for continuous improvement.
  • Develop instruction to staff through method statements or toolbox talks to ensure a right‑first‑time approach.
  • Support quality or project teams with technical queries or issues, contributing to 8D, Ishikawa, 5 Whys and FMEA reviews.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Ideally a HNC in welding & fabrication or a closely related discipline with relevant experience.
  • Responsible Welding Coordinator (RWC) certification.
  • Experience managing a team and coordinating relatively technical activities.
  • Understanding of quality management systems in accordance with EN ISO 3834-2 and EN ISO 9001.
  • Strong experience with TIG, MMA, MIG/MAG and FCAW welding processes.
  • Experience with fully mechanised welding equipment (robotic and column & boom systems) is advantageous.
  • Experience manufacturing high‑integrity equipment in stainless steels, creep‑resistant steels, nickel alloys and cast iron.
  • IT literacy.
  • Experience managing internal and external stakeholders (customers and suppliers).
Desirable
  • Professional membership status registered with the Engineering Council (CEng, IEng or EngTech).
  • Experience with resistance and/or power beam welding processes.
