Job description

Due to continued growth and investment, we have a new and exciting opportunity for a Weighbridge Operator to join our Team at our Longhoughton Quarry on a full-time and permanent basis.

As a member of MGL Group, you will be committed to ensuring safe working conditions and adherence to all company principles, procedures, and regulations relevant to your role.

Hours of work typically run Monday to Friday, with Saturdays as required. Good rates of pay, regular overtime, and benefits are available, with an immediate start.

The successful candidate will be reliable, friendly, flexible, and approachable, with excellent communication skills for dealing with customers and hauliers.

This is a busy position, and previous experience in a similar role is preferred. All applicants should be fully computer literate, ideally with knowledge of weighbridge operating software.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK.

Role requirements
  • Accurately produce tickets for materials coming both into and out of our depot/yard, ensuring vehicle, customer, material, delivery and tonnage details are all correct
  • Ensure phone calls are answered professionally and handled correctly
  • Have a polite and professional approach with customers, collecting materials and informing production staff of the customers’ tonnage and material requirements prior to loading
  • Liaising with the transport manager and the sales and production team to maximise the revenue of the transport, keeping idle time and dead miles of our vehicles to a minimum
  • Liaising with our other weighbridges when required
  • Reporting any concerns with regard to delivery times, materials quality, material availability, health & safety, transport problems, production delays and plant breakdowns to sales/management
  • Ensure customer credit limit warnings are highlighted and discussed with the head office/line manager before supplying materials to the customer
  • Monitor wagons using the vehicle tracking system to highlight any site issues and challenge drivers as and when required, taking into account driver’s hours and the working time directive
  • Ensure adequate stationery and tickets are available and reordered through the head office as required
  • Handling our customer accounts and maintaining appropriate records
  • Ensure the weighbridge is clean and tidy
  • Report all near misses and Health and Safety issues to management
  • Ensure all visitors sign in and out of the site
  • Ensure customers, drivers and staff are wearing the minimum PPE, and report when not
  • Ensure drivers and contractors are directed on site and warned of any hazards
  • Ensure visitors are escorted or met by a member of staff at the weighbridge.
  • Assist with any other requirement within the business during quiet spells
  • Be willing to alternate start and finish times in line with customer/production demand
  • Be willing to carry out different job roles in line with business requirements
  • Be willing to undertake any additional training to facilitate and improve your job role
  • Be willing to train others to allow for holiday cover/flexibility
