Job description

As a Waterside Champion, we need your support to be there for our customers. The millions of visitors to our waterways, museums, and attractions are intrigued by our wonderful 200-year-old network. Our Champions facilitate a great experience for all.

Role Description

This opportunity involves helping in the running of the welcome station at Bugsworth Basin. The welcome station has been around for many years but was only recently reopened under the trust, making it a new venture and a blank canvas for your ideas. The main purpose is to engage with the public and represent the trust. Facilities include making tea, coffee, and hot chocolate for visitors. There is also a small museum where you can learn about the Basin's history and its reopening, which you can share with visitors.

As a Waterside Champion, your support helps ensure visitors have a memorable experience. You may be involved in activities along towpaths at Welcome Stations, demonstrating collections at museums, caring for and operating swing and lift bridges, and facilitating safe passage through tunnels.

Additional Roles

We also have roles such as Rangers, Lock Keepers, Explorers, and Youth Engagement, which complement the Waterside Champion role in providing customer-focused support.

What You Will Be Doing

• Representing the Trust to welcome and engage visitors, customers, and local people
• Working as part of a team to care for the day-to-day operation of the waterways
• Operating key parts of the waterways to ensure safe passage for boaters and engaging with the public about them
• Declaring any unspent convictions during registration and participating in risk assessments as needed
