Job description
Overview

Ward Healthcare Assistant at One Hatfield Hospital. An excellent opportunity for an experienced Ward Healthcare Assistant to join our wards team. Reporting to the Ward Manager, the successful candidate will assist qualified nurses to provide a high standard of care for patients during admission/visit. You will follow hospital policy and national guidelines to ensure care and safety.

Working Hours

32.5 hours per week, Mon-Sun shift pattern.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Support Registered General Nurses (RGNs) in the implementation of an agreed plan of care with the patient.
  • Promote and maintain a caring, supportive environment focused on meeting the needs of patients/relatives/carers, working collaboratively with other departments.
  • Look after the physical comfort of patients, for example assisting with activities of daily living.
  • Take basic observations (blood pressure and temperature, height and weight), utilise the early warning score system per hospital policy and escalate appropriately to a trained nurse.
  • Listen and talk to patients, helping them to feel supported and safe.
  • Assist with keeping the department clean and tidy, including cleaning of equipment and adherence to infection prevention and control policy.
  • Keep supplies and equipment in order, assisting in stock maintenance.
  • Maintain contemporaneous patient records including patient pathways and relevant IT reporting systems, ensuring they are up-to-date and countersigned by a trained nurse.
  • Chaperone when required.
  • Participate in basic wound care management as required.
  • Address patient/relative complaints when possible; escalate to the appropriate staff when needed.
  • Report complaints, compliments and untoward incidents via Datix as per hospital policy.
Qualifications
  • Minimum GCSE education or equivalent.
  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent preferred.
Experience
  • Ability to learn and develop.
  • Some health care experience in a hospital environment.
Skills
  • Caring, patient and customer-focused.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Comprehensive written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable
  • Experience in the private sector.
  • Competence in phlebotomy, venipuncture and undertaking ECGs.
  • Enthusiasm for cross-functional working within different departments.
