Waking Night Carer, Northwest London. 2 waking night shift per week available for a professional, dedicated and experienced Waking Night Carer to assist a 19-year-old happy and engaging young man with complex care needs. £171.00 Gross per Shift

  • Nearest Station: Hendon Central
  • Salary/Wage: Weeknights: £171.00 Gross per shift, £18.00 Weekdays Gross per Hour
  • Driving Requirements: Not applicable
  • Essential: Experienced waking night carer, confident with manual handling tasks, preferably non-smoker/vaper
  • Desirable: PEG Feeding
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Days & Hours: 2 nights – either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. 9.30pm to 7.00am. This role offers overtime to cover staff absences in addition to your contract shifts.

Snap Care has had the pleasure of working with Arv for many years; he is 19 years old. He is at the heart of a loving and supportive family, and lives at home in Hendon with his parents. Arv is a real charmer and loves to be the centre of attention! He is very social, outgoing, and enjoys spending time with his family and peers. Music is a big passion; he loves listening to all genres; anything with a beat and rhythm! Arv has a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy, which affects all areas of his development, as a result he requires 24/7 support to meet his health, care and medical needs. He is a full-time wheelchair user, receives almost all his nutrition, fluid and medication via his PEG, may require suctioning (oral) and communicates using sounds, body language and facial expressions. Over the years, Arv’s parents have built a dedicated, dynamic, and skilled team of SEN professionals to support him 24/7. There is an opening for an experienced Waking Night Carer to join the team.

The Role at a Glance

The Waking Night Carer will complete a handover and continue Arv’s evening and bedtime routine on a 1:1 basis, supporting with his personal care, and getting him comfy and settled in bed. The Waking Night Carer will prepare his PEG feed and carry out a flush when required. Arv requires full-time attention, often due to levels of discomfort throughout the night and requires regular repositioning, soothing and reassurance. You must be confident with manual handling, hoists are available to reposition Arv during the night. At times, he may want a cuddle on the powered carer’s chair next to his bed, and small sips of water. Please note: Arv is 42kg, professional manual handling training provided to ensure you are confident in your ability to support Arv with moving and repositioning. A comfy, specialist chair is provided whilst on shift, with access to tea/coffee facilities and snacks. You will be in Arv’s bedroom throughout the night, tending to his needs as and when required. It is generally a very active waking night shift, although, if Arv is asleep, and all reports are completed, you are welcome to study / read etc. In addition to waking nights, there may also be a couple of day shifts available for those interested in daytime work.

A calm, patient, dedicated, and caring Waking Night Carer with excellent communication skills. You must have a genuine passion for supporting others; this will be your vocation. Arv needs his Waking Night Carer to be empathic and intuitive. You will enjoy working in a family setting, within a team, and be a team player. The Waking Night Carer must be available for a minimum of 2 shift each week, as continuity of care is paramount.
