A leading end-of-life charity in Plymouth is seeking compassionate individuals to become Hospital Companion Volunteers. You'll provide emotional support and companionship to those at the end of life while helping to shape a new service in the community. Qualifications

Become a Hospital Companion Volunteer with Marie Curie in Plymouth

Marie Curie has a Hospital Companion service in Plymouth, offering compassionate individuals the chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people at the end of life. Volunteers will provide emotional and practical support at either Mount Gould Hospital or Derriford Hospital - based on your preference.

About the opportunity

Each week, you'll support a different person - offering emotional care, companionship, and a calming presence when it's needed most.

You'll also help shape this service, contributing to its development and impact within the hospital and wider community.

What you'll do:

Your support will be tailored to each individual you visit each week, but may include:

  • Spend time with someone new each week
  • Offer emotional support and companionship
  • Share helpful info and connect families to local services
  • Help shape a brand-new service that truly matters
  • Complete a basic report after each visit
  • Participate in regular wellbeing sessions, team meetings, and refresher training
