Full time Band 6 – Virtual Fracture Clinic Practitioner (37.5 hours)
Job Summary
We are seeking an energetic and self‑motivated Band 6 practitioner to join our multidisciplinary team. You will work alongside leading orthopaedic consultants to deliver expert care and timely advice to patients following attendance at Urgent Care or the Emergency Department. This role offers the opportunity to pioneer innovative approaches and enhance patient outcomes in a fast‑paced and forward‑thinking environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop practitioner‑led Virtual Fracture Clinics, ensuring high quality and cost‑effective care.
- Coordinate all aspects of the Virtual Fracture Clinic, liaising with the multidisciplinary team, UCC, A&E and Teddington Walk‑in Centre to secure referral notes and optimise pathways.
- Document and audit outcomes on Cerner, providing telephone updates to patients and arranging follow‑up appointments as needed.
- Communicate clinically relevant information to patients, taking language or hearing barriers into account.
- Offer practical advice on fracture and soft‑tissue injury management, including plaster cast care, pain management and rehabilitation.
- Prioritise appointments and manage workload autonomously while collaborating effectively with the team.
- Develop communication and conflict‑management skills to handle anxious or volatile situations, acting as a patient advocate.
- Provide timely diagnostic requests, including imaging and blood tests, and facilitate referrals to physiotherapy or the Hand Management Unit where appropriate.
- Engage in service development, leading audits in partnership with the Trauma Nurse Coordinator to improve patient satisfaction, wait times and discharge rates.
- Maintain evidence‑based patient leaflets and support the implementation of 360‑degree service evaluation.
Qualifications and Experience
Education and Qualifications
- Essential: Registered Nurse, Allied Health Professional or Specialist Professional Qualification from a nationally recognised orthopaedic course (or equivalent experience). Degree level qualification or equivalent experience required.
- Desirable: Evidence of continuing professional development; Diploma or Degree in a relevant profession.
Experience
- Essential: Experience in Virtual Fracture Clinic or outpatient MSK setting; experience caring for trauma and orthopaedic patients; autonomous working at Band 5 level; relationship building with colleagues; verbal and written communication skills; equality and diversity awareness.
- Desirable: Working knowledge of primary care and reflective practice.
Skills and Knowledge
- Essential: Knowledge of fracture and soft‑tissue injury management; strong interpersonal skills; confident communicator (in person and telephone); autonomous and team working; prioritisation; presentation; clinical governance; IT literacy (Microsoft Office); negotiator; problem‑solving.
- Desirable: Experience with CERNER Application; change‑management skills.
